So Valve has still not implemented a surrender option in DOTA 2, and have yet to announce whether it will be in the final client.

I believe that it really should not be that hard for them to determine at what point a team could no longer possibly come back from their current deficit and therefore should be give the option to surrender.

For example if two players have already DC'd they should not force people to waste their precious time running around getting ganked.

There must be some combination of level differentials, equipment and money imbalances and kill deficits where a surrender option should then be made available.

They could also make the tolerance for surrender increasingly stricter as you move higher up in ladder rank.

Hopefully Valve is still debating this feature for a future update.

After a player has been DCed for more than 5 minutes, his teammates can leave without consequence. So the DCed example isn't very good.

Yep, this. If even one person has been D/C for 5 cumulative minutes or abandoned the game, you can leave the game consequence free.

It's hard to create a surrender point that actually makes sense. 2 rax down? Can still win. 6 external towers down? Can still win. 10-30 kills? Can still win. Play to win. Yes, sometimes you're in a game for 10 extra minutes where it seems like there's no way to come back. But I have lots of times where my allies and I called "gg" and we came back to win.

Inside the game you will get a message saying "XXXX has abandoned the game. It is now safe to leave." It will be red and on the left hand side of the game.

Note that this isn't when they D/C, but when they've been D/C for 5 cumulative minutes or clicked "abandon game."

Man now I feel bad manner not leaving sooner when half my team d/c'd lol.

OP still stands though, I think surrendering should be an option so that no one has to be penalized.

Honestly the "surrender" option should never be implemented. IMO it'll just ruin the game since already too many people give up when they die twice within a minute or two or someone else is terrible so the rest of the team has to pick up slack.. imagine if they brought in a "surrender" option.. it'll just encourage bad attitudes and giving up.

Edit: Just saw your edit of OP. But like I/other people have said, you can come back at any stage of the game in any type of deficit. If people eventually find out the way that Valve implemented their "Surrender" option (which WILL eventually happen), then no matter how hard you make it people will always work towards activating the surrender option since they just want to leave instead of abandoning which means they'll just throw games that are still possible to win.

If 1 player DC for more than 5 minutes the game will be safe to leave. It will be stated in game. Even this happens to the other team you can still leave.

If you are playing in a 5-friends team, all 5 of you can leave the game. If no one reconnects for longer than 30 seconds, it is counted as a surrender. The opponents will be rewarded a win and there are no consequence for you and your friends. (Other than losing the game)

You added in the time is money friend so I will assume you are a fan of wc3 dota. Since there's no surrender in wc3 dota, you can do without it in dota 2. THIS AIN'T HON OR LEAGUE!

Only Surrender we need.

If you add surrender you're going to have people giving up way too soon when they still have a chance to win and spamming rest of their team with surrender or I report or some shit like that.

I've had plenty of wins where someone in my team already gg'd.

It's exactly that quitter mentality of LoL that dota needs.Remember guys comebacks are impossible and 4v5 can't be done surrender at 20.

I remember back in the day people would be happy to be one man down...and the other team would COMPLAIN about being the 5 against the 4 because the 4 would get extra gold and exp.

I don't really support this surrender option because there were many times when some members of my team were like saying "oh this is gg for us" but in the end, we still won because we had a good carry, the other team made a huge blunder, etc. Surrendering too early could result in missing out some epic comeback moments.

I am lightly in favour of a 5/5 surrender option. Seems the majority of dota players (at least the ones dedicated enough to speak up in forums about it) are against it though, not a big deal either way. Both situations cause frustration in pretty equal amounts imo.

But I wanna add that, it is Valve's responsibility to adjust MM system to let us play relatively equal games.
There are several threads and thousands of posts, at dev forum, on how games are one sided. When you outplayed or out picked etc.. it is very hard(near impossible) to come back.

All we need is a proper MM system puts us equal teams, not concede.
9 January test client update: Bots are now less likely to assume that humans will purchase wards.

and the result will be? right, all those noobs, haters, rager and trolls will spam the surrender button as soon as it is possible when they dont like where the game is heading! no more epic comebacks since the majority of players is too bad to even judge the game situation right.

i do agree on the fact that it can be painful to wait 40 min until the enemy team finishes. but i rather have this the case for 10% of my games than having 50% of my losses surrendered at 20min.

just look at how horrible this turns out especially in the lower skill pools at HoN and LoL, where random idiots who suck really badly hit the button at 20mins because they are driven by the incredible dumb team mentality and not by objective judgement and facts.

plz dota stay classy as you are, we dont need the surrender button. THIS....IS....SPA...ehrm....DOTA !

You don't have to implement a surrender option that will make your team surrender after just 1 "yes" vote -.-"
In LoL when some "random idiot who suck really badly hit the button at 20 mins" and then the non-idiots press "no" then (surprisee) surrender vote fails (Valve could adjust it to be "either everyone surrenders or noone does").

And if Valve really wants to listen to people afraid of pubs they should at least implement surrender for arranged 5s...
