Howdy folks!
In my efforts to both improve as a caster as well as attempt to produce YouTube content for the community to enjoy, I'll be recording and uploading replay casts to the tune of at least 2 a week, being released on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Obviously I want to share these with the Dota 2 TL community, but I most certainly don't want to "spam" them, so I figured a happy medium would be to just make one thread which I will update every time a new one is released.
Thanks for the support guys and gals-- hope everyone enjoys!

Right now just focusing on the D2L Season 2 (120+ games to cast over 10-12 weeks, so plenty to do there), and playing pinch hitter whenever someone else needs my services!
...and, of course, praying the Frog finds my efforts fit for Seattle in 2013 =P |

I'm going to give you some constructive criticism so prepare yourself:
Hero introductions/players should be done prior to any strategic movement on the map. I'll let this slide since you didn't have ban/pick phase to go through it all. Also because you are doing this on a VOD so you took the time to talk about other things prior to the gameplay picking up as well as acknowledging that you were behind on the commentary.
Perhaps some tidbits on ward placement at the start of the game for dire since you touched on how Puppey was playing Enigma in the jungle.
Equal time: While no action is going on, even in a solo cast you should spend equal camera time on the 3 lanes and their heroes. Rotation of stats on the top left: Early on you had it set to last hits and denies, but you could always swap it to networth to show whether all the last hits puppey was getting actually being spent on pure items or support since you were spending 2-3 minutes just on the bottom lane at 5-7m.
Could use more commentary on their skill builds based on their lanes. Just quick 1-2 tidbits on say, no shadow strike on qop vs puck. Max feast on Naix. You seemed to cover item builds just fine earlygame.
I like how you up the excitement and still call out the attacks: Big sonic wave, lasso, etc. What would also help is post commentary on how it affects the momentum of the game, immediately rather than during a lull. During those lulls I would re-examine their items, builds, and how the lanes have changed. Also this is where the gold/exp graphs and other stats come in handy to just touch upon before a tower push.
Some pluses for comparing VP to what they were a month or two ago (being a much weaker team).
I notice that your analysis is generally how things are going unwell for Navi. I think its important to maintain tension and drama in a game, so you should talk instead what Navi could be doing (analysis) to win the game. Also positive reinforcement for the winning side (VP) should share equal time. Also one way to improve is to make predictions instead of just casting play by plays. This can be fairly easy by using the stats to track how well people are doing, or by simply playing more dota games so you understand the meta.
Just one more thing. When the battle is raging and the hero you selected dies, switch to another hero. Its much more dramatic when you have the main heroes (carries or initiators) selected at the start so we can see their cooldowns and what else they have up their sleeves. Also lets you catch any next level things like multiple armlet toggles, wand saves, delayed bkbs, etc.
I like your voice. |

| I don't see enough casters using camera grip when viewing the battle (for any of the english casters to be honest). This is standard in SC2 to use camera grip when spectating as it allows more fluid camera work. Using camera grip when viewing fights that are both smaller and larger than 1 screen would definitely improve your casting and others. Camera grip is found in the options and requires you to bind a key (like middle mouse) to slide the camera. |

Ayesee, some comments on your recent game 2 EG vs Dignitas.
As a caster you should try to hype the game by telling the audience how EG or Dignitas can still win. As you recall EG was getting dominated by Dignitas early into mid game. At 3-2 (Dignitas) you called the game as won for Dignitas. That's a little premature. Hindsight 20/20 later, Dignitas throws by losing 4 of their heroes caught out around 24 minutes and EG is able to balance the game out especially after their warlock gets his aghs and wins two more fights with it. Next time try to hype the game and make it more entertaining by entertaining the idea of how EG or Dignitas can pull the game in their favor when they are down significantly. You should also take into account how hero scaling and team compositions can change as items come into effect.
Another thing during the cast: When you question a player's decision making when getting caught out alone, you should do it in a less direct manner. To your audience (which some are in chat), it sounds like you're questioning their skill and judgement, which is much more direct than commenting about communication/ team decision making. Sure it might actually be a overconfident Fogged, or supa high Jeyo, but the role of a sports caster isn't to make those kinds of judgement calls (thats reserved for the fans to argue about). You are there to make the game more interesting if its boring, to point out things people might miss, so on (like when you did not notice EG lost 2 RAX trying to kill Aui's CK).
Also, your mic often crackles at the beginning of the cast. Might want to take a look into that. Also Draskyll's trebel is very high and it makes his voice considerably contrast in volume and din.
In short, you've improved lots since a month ago. But I want to see you in TI3. And I'm still looking for some innovation even, such as having a dedicated camera man (since you have have up to 4 broadcasters), or improving the drop down stats that you have open (there's no need to sit on GPM late game, you should focus on buybacks, and other stats). |
