"SCOUT OR SHOUT?" Hello and welcome to Random StarLeague! This tournament will be the opposite of everything you might've grown used to in terms of proper tournaments, Brood War or otherwise. First and foremost: THIS TOURNAMENT IS FOR ALL SKILL LEVELS (and for fun ^^).So what is this "Random" StarLeague? - Their races are RANDOM.
- Their aliases are RANDOM.
This is but a small sample of the randomness that lies within. Now you may ask, how will this shindig go down? To sign up for this tournament you must PM THIS ACCOUNT.WITH SOME VARIATION OF "RSL APPLICATION" IN THE TITLE AND YOUR MOST WELL-KNOWN ALIAS IN THE BODY.

After the Ladder Stage, there will be the Tournament Stage. Preliminary information on the Tournament Stage: + Show Spoiler [Information on Ro32] +The Tournament Stage will take the top 32 players (by ICCup rating) and put them them into RANDOM groups of 4. Within these groups of 4, the following format will be used:
RANDOM Player 1 <RANDOM ICCup Map> RANDOM Player 2
RANDOM Player 3 <RANDOM ICCup Map> RANDOM Player 4
WINNER 1v2 <RANDOM ICCup Map> WINNER 3v4
LOSER 1v2 <RANDOM ICCup Map> LOSER 3v4
WINNER of Game 3 <RANDOM ICCup Map> WINNER of Game 4
After the Ro32, the winners of each group's Game 3 and Game 5 will be RANDOMLY (T/N: NO SEEDS) pitted against other groups' winners.
The same method for picking opponents will be used all the way until there is but 2 players left in the finals.
The rest of the rules for the Tournament Stage will be revealed before the Tournament Stage is due to begin.
Games in the Ro32 and up WILL BE CASTED. The casters are TBD. o amidst all this randomness, you may ask yourself: "Where is the law and order that I've grown accustomed to? How can we remain sane under such conditions? Where are the RULES?" - All players must use RANDOM in all of their matches. Compliance with this rule will be judged by SCIENCE, also knows as statistical standard deviation properly scaled to one's game count. More details on this rule can be found in this post: On random
- Players can agree to reveal their races at the start of the game or not, both are perfectly legal. If Player 1 wants to shout and Player 2 wants to scout, there is no necessity of Player 2 to reveal their race.
- Dodging is NOT allowed. If you see someone dodging, please take a screen shot and send it to me.
Clarification: If you play one game with the opponent that day, declining further games is NOT dodging. More details on this rule can be found in this post: On dodging
- The Ladder Stage will begin on Saturday 15th, 0:00 KST, and end on a (probably) randomly-generated date at some point in the future that will be revealed at LEAST 1 week before its termination. The Tournament Stage will follow soon after. Any games played outside of this range will be counted as requests for withdrawal from the league.
- There can be no revealing in any way, shape, or form of smurfs by any party, both the smurf involved or by an outside detective. Any such activity will result in you being BANNED from the tourney and I will bookmark the incident and use it as evidence to forever stain your name in BW, making sure that I do my best in order to prevent you from participating in anything ever again, ever. Yes, this means that SMURFING IS A REQUIREMENT.
- Similarly, if you are aware of anyone violating any of these rules and do not inform the organizer, you will also be banned.
- There can be no giving of free wins, intentional losses, or other such nonsense.
- Consequently, match lists will be scrutinized in order to determine who is in violation of the above rules. There is a limit of 650 points WON vs. any player on any given day. However...
- Replays may be asked for prematurely in cases that require further examination (such as conspicuous cheating and point donating.)
- Another consequence of the nature of this ladder is that THERE MAY BE NO RESETTING OF POINTS.
- All ICCup maps are allowed. If it gets you points on ICCup, it's valid.
- All players must agree to send their replays in at the end of the ladder stage in order to participate in the Ro32 if they are eligible.
- All players must ABSTAIN FROM WHINING at any point in this tournament, for fear of being banned.
- However, BM is allowed. Any BM. No disconnecting intentionally though, that's lame.
- The smurfs of all players will be revealed at AN [INTENTIONALLY] UNDISCLOSED POINT IN THE TOURNAMENT.
- Rules are subject to change based on harsh reality or whim of the administrator, me.
- All players must recommend this tournament to their friends and peers.

As today is the first day of the Ladder Stage, I have randomly decided to make the day upon which this first random event occurs to be non-random, in other words, today. [PS: You have no idea how hard it is to structure sentences with so much randomness x_x] Today's randomly generated event is 3, the Poll Event (would have been random removal of points, good thing we snipped that in the bud!). For this first event, I would like you to all choose what your favorite randomly generated alias is! I find etymology and words to be very interesting, and I am also interested in what words appeal to people. It can be the most badass, the silliest, or the most random one; whichever is your favorite! There will be two polls, and then the top 2-3 names of each poll will be put in one poll later, with the winning name receiving a full etymology and definition. With the rising need for lesser servants of the various kingdoms to do their lord's bidding onto a growing populace, the title of "Viscount" was created as an additional non-royal class. How will you be able to distinguish between dodging and simply having no time to play? If someone in this league writes "Hey guy wanna play?" so you have to reply "Hey dear Sir. I am sincerly sorry that I cannot apply to your wish to play. It is impossible for me to play now since I have other obligations. This obligations include [insert any reasoning]."? to not get banned?

It is just not possible to tell if someone is dodging or if he actually has no time.
Obviously I'm not going to kick people out for having jobs or going to sleep. It's also not like it'd be an instaban from the league either, probably warning then (random) point deduction THEN something more serious. In such cases the best way to check if it's sincere or not is if they log off/go inactive shortly after - evidence to the contrary (screenshots of /whois of them in a different game, or them chatting for an extended period of time after, something along those lines) that would have to be provided for a complaint to hold water.
However, I expect this rule to enforce self-policing; I don't expect many complaints to come in. I don't expect people to dodge in a fun league and I don't expect people to log on just to chat/not play. I put the rule in so that it's written that dodging is frowned upon by the organizer, so that if there were any players with a desire to do so, there would be a way of handling it.
Postponements are also encouraged ("hey wanna play?" "no sorry I just finished a game and gotta go, how about next time?" = NOT a dodge).Last edit: 2012-12-08 02:48:36 |
