Hey guys!
I’m Wardí and one year ago, on the 20th of December, I founded the community SC2Improve. Initially SC2Improve was a Gold to Diamond practice group/chat channel, residing in the channel sc2improve on EU Battle Net. We’ve come a long way since then, with many ups and downs along the way from maxing out the channel every day with 100 people to sitting around a constant 50 each day now.
The Last Year
+ Show Spoiler +
On the 13th of February we ran our first ever weekly tournament, the SC2Improve Weekly. On March the 19th we introduced a $5 prize to our tournament, and it steadily grew in popularity frequently reaching 50-60 players. Nowadays the Weekly is a little quieter but still attracts 20-30 players each week and we have so far ran 39 Weekly events - only taking breaks due to real life situations.
Sometime in February Team SC2Improve was founded, a team which consisted of Plat-Dia players interested in working together to increase each others skill. As of Summer 2012 Team SC2Improve consists purely of Master League players, many of which are those who joined us initially in Platinum.
The largest and most successful points of SC2Improve have been the Summer and Winter League tournaments. The Summer League ran from June to August and saw 61 players participating and fighting for the title, only to see Mix come out on top with a 4-1 victory in the finals. Then there was the Winter League.
The Winter League is SC2Improves most recent event, and by god did it go better than we expected. After 5 qualifier nights we now have 16 players qualified for the RO16. Over 5 qualifiers we had 230 different participants. 230?!? In my books that is absolutely ridiculous interest in a community tournament ran by quite simply me, with help from some great guys who step in to admin. We saw numerous GMs taking interesting and most recently we saw aTnDelphi qualify for the RO16. For more information on the Winter League check out the Liquipedia Page.
So we’ve come a long way in the past year and so much of it is because of you guys who have supported the community, supported the ideas I have brought to you, participated in the tournaments, tuned into the streams. Without you guys the motivation to run this project wouldn’t be half as big as it is right now. I spend hours every week on SC2Improve, and I have to say it is the best hobby I could ever dream of pursuing. So thank you.
The success of SC2Improve definitely deserves a celebration, which is why I am writing here today. On Thursday, December 20th at 1900 CET we will be running a 2v2 tournament so that everyone that is a part of SC2Improve can get together and have a good bit of fun - which is what we are all about! It’ll also be a great opportunity to get involved with SC2Improve and meet some of the people around it if you have not already.
