It’s been a long and prosperous year for speedrunning. Twitch viewcounts skyrocketing, more and more partnered streams and a bunch of huge marathons were all kicked off by one thing:
AGDQ valiantly returns! The biggest and best speedrunning event running from Sunday January 6th 2013 13:00EST[local] until late night Saturday 12th January! Speedrunners from all over are gathering once more in Washington DC to raise money live for the Prevent Cancer Foundation, which focuses on research and education for preventable cancers.
That's right, more than 120 games! With the event getting bigger and bigger we’ve added an extra day to bring 6 full days of speedrunning goodness with our most ridiculous roster yet: There’s Final Fantasy IX, Ocarina of Time (100%) and Pokemon Gold. Samus, Sonic and Donkey return with even crazier runs. Hate console games? How about Portal 2, Amnesia or Starcraft 2? Retro only fan? Have some Contra, Castlevania and Ninja Gaiden. If any of you don’t cream yourselves in anticipation from at least one of these games then I don’t know what the hell is wrong with you. AGDQ even includes another fantastic night dedicated to awful games: Lick those lips in anticipation of Shadow the Hedgehog, Earnest Evans and Bio Force Ape. But why Awesome Games Done Quick? Speedrunning has been huge over the last year and right at the centre of it you’ll find SDA, SRL & Twitch.tv all of which are involved here. This marathon is so hype that the marathon to send people there (Numbersmw marathon) was insane. Many of your favourite runners from Twitch are there alongside world record holders and people prepared to convince you that F-Zero isn’t that hard, Dark Souls is an hour long romp in the park and that Darksiders isn’t even a game (you’ll see what I mean). On top of that, the stream will run 24 hours a day for the entirety of the marathon. So long winter blues, hello speedruns!
In case you needed more convincing, Awesome Games Done Quick offers unbeatable live (on camera) speedrun commentary alongside the gaming action. With donation incentives that allow you to change the way the game is played as well as naming characters and even the chance to vote games into the marathon. On top of that, when you donate you get a shot at winning incredible prizes, from unique artwork, gaming replicas (like a goddamn GunBlade) as well as a load of games, collectibles and so on.

Aside from my honest opinion that it’s the greatest gaming event of the year, this is something that I know Team Liquid has greatly enjoyed in the past. The members have had a massive presence in previous marathons and this year, we’ll have our biggest yet. The combination of high level play and relaxed fun atmosphere really show what gaming is all about: just a bunch of people having fun and playing games.
Oh, and I, Flicky will be there once again and I need your help! I will be trying to play Devil May Cry 3 on Saturday January 12th 2013 1:45 EST (Very Hard, New Game+) but it's a donation war between Vergil and Dante! Whichever character gets more money, is the character used in the run. I'll be the Dante runner and Spineshark the Vergil runner so it all hangs in the balance.

The game's time manipulation comes into play in order to get all the puzzle pieces.

This is the first DS Castlevania game and the direct sequel to Aria of Sorrow. Final Fantasy IX was square's attempt to regain the magic of the 16 bit era returning one again to a medieval setting to save the princess or crystal or whatever. Final Fantasy IX is a unique Final Fantasy in the sense its the only game that has a balanced combat system; no more reverse joker dooms, Cait Sith slots, Limits or Trio of 9999 on every boss. StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty

Blizzard's new campaign for Starcraft 2 is much more interesting to play than the old ones as it includes a mostly open ended mission path, choices on unit upgrades, and new, more interesting, tactics than merely "kill everything." Most notably is the inclusion of the "Brutal" difficulty which is basically Hard++. Many things have extra health, all enemy units start with upgrades and by halfway through have maxed upgrades. The difficulty level was so great that many players never finished the game on Brutal.
Raelcun, On the other hand, will blaze through the game on brutal and make it look easy. Including straight up abusive tactics, a couple instances of Ninja Zeratul, nuking objectives in under 5 minutes, and sending small armies to kill objectives that have no business ever doing so.
To anyone who is familiar with the StarCraft Universe, this should be an eye opener on what is possible.

Like the other members of the Ghosts 'n Goblins family, the player controls Arthur on his quest twice through the game to rescue Princess Prin Prin from the clutches of evil. The torch is pretty notorious for being the worst weapon in the game due to its incredibly short range and useless trajectory, but that doesn't scare PJ. It probably should, though.
The first ever 3DS game to be played during a SDA Marathon. Thanks to capture modifications, the footage will be direct-feed which makes it easier for everyone to watch. Watch Mario rescue the Princess for the umpteenth time and discover how the civilians and enemies of The Mushroom Kingdom have a huge fetish on those darn Raccoon Tails.

Zelda: Ocarina of Time

This is all of Ocarina of Time. The whole damn thing. Runnerguy & Pheenoh sharing duties to show just about everything this game has. 100% in about 6 hours. No problem.
Speedrunning The Wind Waker (TWW for short) was once regarded as a joke for being just sailing. In the past few months the Zelda Speedruns community have torn the game a new one. The hard work has paid off 2011's WR of 6:15~ has been slashed to 4:39. Oh and drink grandma's soup it's good for you!
Each year, AGDQ has lots of donation drives for various challenges, naming characters and pulling off certain tricks. In the AGDQ`11 thread, Jibba mentioned grouping up to name a Chrono Trigger, I loved the idea and last year we banded together in our attempt to name Tifa, ESPORTS.
As you may recall, we missed out on our initial goal and had to settle for Cait Sith. However, in the process we helped turn the Tifa naming into one of the biggest donation drives at any marathon (it took in over $8000) and really made a difference on the marathon total.
This year is Final Fantasy IX and we’re setting our sights just as high and going to an even worthier cause. We had a lot of fun last year with ESPORTS but we thought that with the passing of BW Pro Woo “Violet” Jung Ho to Leukaemia this year, there would no more appropriate name than his. While initially thinking of naming Vivi “Violet”, we decided that Violet deserved to lead the charge and be the real king of the run. Why is that?
Steiner is the goddamn man and anyone who disagrees doesn’t know shit. Everyone is just bleh in comparison.
Steiner is used for the majority of the run and while appearing a bit of a clown is honourable and brave in the face of danger. Oh, and he destroys every enemy he comes across and gets to use the rarest equip in the entire game – The Excalibur II. He is an absolutely key part of the team (much like Violet was) and would be the best dedication we can give.
Now obviously you don't have to donate for this if you don't want to. If you want to donate for a challenge or for another game, go right ahead! If you really can't donate but want to help out, you can still advertise to your friends and just enjoy the show! However, with a nice group effort like this, the TL community can really make their mark on the marathon and do some good. If you want to donate to name Steiner “Violet”, all you have to do is tune in while watching the marathon, then click the chip-in page. Once you've sent in your money by whatever means you want, just leave a chip-in comment (not paypal) saying that your money is towards naming Steiner, Violet! You can also shoutout to TL, your dog, house or anything you want there. There might be a start point for donations, so if you're unsure if they've started yet, just ask in chat!
The main drive will be during Raelcun’s Starcraft 2 Brutal run on 10 January 2013 14:10EST!

Ocarina of Time is incredibly glitchtastic--MST and All Medallions (the latter affectionately known as wacky% by many speedrunning fans) are such incredibly broken categories... in All Medallions you literally kill King Dodongo then warp straight to the credits.

Op is done so well I dont know what to say, been watching AGDQ 2012 so ill tune this time for sure. I want to see fallout with commentary cause thats gonna be new. Still there are some bigger gems for me to watch out for. You will tune in for a moment but stay there for longer :D
