ASSEMBLY Winter 2013 features a €1600 StarCraft 2 Wings of Liberty tournament which is played on February 22-23 in Helsinki, Finland.
Firstly, there is no ASUS ROG tournament at ASSEMBLY Winter 2013 (read why). However, the LAN event will organize a non-BYOC StarCraft 2 tournament with 16 players and a modest prize pool of €1600. The players will be selected by online qualifiers and by direct invites. The tournament format is traditional groups + single elimination playoffs. The event will be streamed in English, Finnish, German, French and Chinese.
The invites are selected among the players who show their interest in the tournament by sending an application by the end of January.
The qualifier tournaments are held on January 21 and January 23. The top four players of each qualifier will advance to the main tournament. A third qualifier is held if necessary with details announced later.
In addition to the two on-site streams, we are looking for community streams in different languages. PM me if you are interested.

Thanks again for the streamers and casters for covering Assembly Winter 2013. A big thank you to the admins and organizers who volunteer to make Assembly possible.
Despite of technical difficulties (aka battle.net) we stayed on schedule and even got seven games in the final which was great. Next Assembly event is Assembly Summer in August. See you then!

Assembly is a LAN event that is organized two times a year, Assembly Summer in August and Assembly Winter in February. The Summer event is more focused on demoscene (digital arts, see archives) and the Winter event focuses on gaming.
ASUS has been sponsoring Assembly for a long time, but in 2010-2011 as their ROG brand was taking leaps forward they agreed to launch a tournament series in the name of ROG in 2011. The tournament series was organized by Hämälä who already had connections to ASUS because of the long lasting sponsorship between ASUS and Assembly. Now as Hämälä stepped aside, ASUS did too, and we don't have a ROG tournament.
As far as I know, ASUS has always been happy with the ROG tournaments. The viewer counts were rising and the event was developing into a unique thing. I'm sure ASUS would have continued the series, but Hämälä was the reason ROG tournaments happened, and now that he doesn't do it, there is no one at the moment who could step into his shoes. |

| So Asus ROG is still sponsoring Assembly proper, and Assembly is still holding an SC2 tournament, but Asus ROG isn't sponsoring that tournament solely because one man isn't involved? Doesn't make sense. |

No, ASUS ROG is not sponsoring Assembly this time (contrary to what assembly.org suggests). |

This will be cool, and I like the open application for community streams too, gives me a chance at casting awesome stuff
Even though its a small SC2 tourney, its still a big event and should get some love! |

We have something called Finnkampen in Sweden/Finland, which is basicly the two countries getting together and throw their best athletes at each other and see who comes out alive (somewhat simplified, but that's the gist of it) - if nothing else, Assembly could end up being something like that. I think it'd be very cool. |

That could be something... I wonder if any Norwegians might be fluid enough to join as well |
