Competitive gamers will go head to head this year in the first Canadian-grown national tournament, dubbed the eSports Canada Alliance. During the spring and summer, challengers will meet at local tournaments in cities across Canada to qualify for placement in high-level provincial finals in August with the grand finals taking place in September. The Canadian champion will receive a trip to Korea to represent Canada at the International eSports Federation 2013 World Championship in South Korea.
Competitors will qualify by pitting themselves against each other in the hit game StarCraft 2. Armed with mouse and keyboard, they will match wits with response time until three emerge as victors to later fight for the right to represent their province on the national stage. Confirmed participating local tournaments in the eSports Canada Alliance include:
· Lan ETS in Montreal, QC
· BaseLAN in Winnipeg, MB
· Frag for Charity in Halifax, NS
· UBC Cup in Vancouver, BC
· SaskGamers in Regina, SK
· LAN ON in Toronto, ON

“We’re very excited to host the first Canadian-run and Canadian-owned national eSports championship,” says eSports Canada President Ken Silva. “Canada has tournaments of high quality happening in cities across the nation, but little cooperation between them to raise the profile of eSports in Canada and create a more robust amateur and professional scene—until now.”

eSports Canada is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of electronic sports: professional competitive gameplay. Founded in Toronto in 2011, eSports Canada has held events in nearly every province and is dedicated through volunteerism to the advancement of the eSports industry. StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty is a military science fiction real-time strategy video game developed and released by Blizzard Entertainment for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X. A sequel to the award-winning 1998 video game StarCraft and its expansions, the game was released worldwide on July 27, 2010.

This is fantastic!

I'm a bit concerned at no Alberta event in the list in the OP. Between U of A, U of C, U of L (Lethbridge) and a couple of smaller universities and colleges it's a great market for your target demographic. There's also at least one group I'm aware of in Calgary who would likely be interested in this.

In any case, I do think this is extremely exciting and can't wait to get in on it. Regina isn't THAT bad of a drive either I suppose.

We have contacted organizations in Alberta, but none had confirmed by the deadline. Don't worry, we're working hard to bring Alberta to this event!

This looks really cool for Canadian SCII. Too often organisations try to hurt, rather than help each other. It should all be about growth until there's actually a large pile of money worth fighting over

without a single link to any of these organizations and a First Post that has [RESERVED] in it you'll forgive me if i'm having no problems containing my excitement.

There is also no link to "LAN ON" on the eSports Canada web site.

and i'll start with a local question.

What is "LAN ON" ?
Who owns "LAN ON"?
Where in Toronto is it?
When was it founded?
How will "LAN ON" host events?

and on the next episode of W5 we bring you...
(well that's 4 Ws and 1 H but you get the idea)

LAN ON is what we're considering branding our own, ESC-produced LAN in Ontario. Details to follow in the coming days.

Considering the murky chaotic and unpredictable world of e-sports please forgive my skepticism...But... Canada's most populous province is represented in Canada's largest City by an organization that ... for all intents and purposes..exists only in your own imagination and no where else? Hardly a solid foundation for a real national championship.
