Just saw this when looking up the VODs for Code A today, two tournaments have appeared under the " leagues " section. http://www.gomtv.net/league/index.gom
In the announcement of GOM moving to a new studio in March they also mentioned wanting to expand to other Esports, I guess this is one of the games they will have.
According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_of_Tanks the game launched in Korea two months ago on December 27th, 2012. Wikipedia classifies it as a " Action, Strategy " game, TL user rauk described it as " a third person team shooter ". I don't know if they are one-off tournaments or the start of a long series like GSL. We'll have to wait for more information to know that.
Personally I'll watch it and see how it is but I doubt it can match Starcraft 2 in popularity.

? isn't it more like a third person team shooter?

NaDa plays this game. I tried it but was turned off. Nice to see more games.

Is it? I'll edit the OP, I assumed it was an RTS.

world of tanks? really?
Does korea have a big interest in this or is it something that the WoT devs are aggressively pushing as an esport since the game doesn't strike me as being an esport due to its pay to win part of the game.

Huh, interesting. My flatmate works for war gaming, I wonder if he even knows about this haha.

is there a popular world of tanks forum where we can troll by making elephant posts when sc2 pros switch?
|
Hm, I didn't really llike World of Tanks, but I also noticed the game being presented as spectators game especially at the gamescom. We'll see how this works out, but I doubt it will generate much success (unless it spreads in Korea like LoL or BW).

Welp that's it SC2 is dead.

When is Gom gonna launch its LoL tournaments?
|
Apparently Legend has been playing this on stream before GS[T]L.

In terms of player numbers, World of Tanks is about the same size as League of Legends. It is much more focused on the Russian, European, and Chinese scenes, but is growing in NA and Korea. Additionally, they have made it so the formerly "pay-to-win" ammo can be bought with in-game currency. They need to work seriously on spectator modes, but I see this as a good thing to help grow e-sports.

I'll honestly watch this just because I'm curious on what professional Asian World of Tanks looks like.
Hopefully GOM adds Kart Rider as well. I want to see more of that.

Okay, downloading world of tanks as we speak.:D
also, i remember legend from in a short clip saying that he was practicing observing World of tanks so no surprise here I guess.
|
This game has a competitive scene? That's really unexpected, but I'll definitely try and catch this so I can see it.

Well, this game is quite popular and can even afford advertising on main french tv channels. I'll check this tournament as I used to play a lot to the game in the past.
Btw, I'm pretty sure they were a WCS tournament, but i'm not sure it was WCS in fact. xD Btw 2, if you like this game, you might wanna have a look at mech warrior online, which is alos F2P and is much more fun to me.

Hopefully GOM adds Kart Rider as well. I want to see more of that. With that new StarTale acquisition it would be awesome =p
World of Tanks getting pretty big now. Atleast its something fresh, instead of adding in a MOBA or something.

I prefer this to LoL any day of the week
Cheers!
