I was playing some unranked and a guy asked me to leave because he wanted the points to try to get masters. I was kind of curious as to if he was telling the truth and it was unranked so it didn't matter and lo and behold he made masters from that game. I feel like this could end up as a serious problem because I know quite a lot of people that leave unranked games if they don't hit the correct race which could inflate points, get people into leagues they don't deserve etc. Has anyone run into this and does anyone think this is a problem? You must remember that even though a person may gain points from this type of trading, eventually they will be so far boosted up they can't trade anymore since they won't que into each other. Not to mention that they will face much harder opponents who they now can't compete with. The players abusing this will most likely get knocked into a losing streak or face blizzard penalty by abusing the system.

The score screen will still show you many points you lost or gained which is also accompanied by (and equivalent to) whether you are favoured, slightly favoured or equally matched?

- it is a problem , just not big enough to matter If they push their rating to masters without deserving to be there, then so be it. They will lose at some later point

I don't think he means the term "favored", as in, X player had the higher MMR, but rather that no one player gains an advantage from facing unranked players. Let's say me and you play 10 games, my first 2 games are vs unranked people that leave instantly or don't play seriously. But the next day we also play 10 games and maybe you get to face 2 unranked people now. In other words, it all evens out.

How to (generally) know if you play vs a ranked or unranked player (at the end): If they have a league icon next to their name, it was a ranked game for them. If they dont, then it was unranked. The case of the other person going through placement matches this also happens though. I think it is the only way to make unranked work though. If you had unranked vs unranked, you would likely be cheesed way way less which makes the practice gleaned from those games worthless. Also, it isnt a problem in the long run because that is what league is based on. The long run. If you get 10 easy wins in a row because people left, you will face harder people and go back down to where you belong.

I believe when unranked play was announced Blizzard said that your ranked MMR is completely separate from your unranked MMR. They are two different numbers that are unaffected by each other.

So, based on what they said, someone would have to raise their unranked MMR to a level where they're matching up against players of a certain level? I guess throwing games (ranked or unranked) on purpose would be quite counter-productive in that case... Thanks.

What you said is incorrect, I am in masters and I have my league icon/colour when I play unranked and ranked games. That does not display whether you opponent is playing a ranked game

The starting point for unranked is based on your ranked MMR, after you start playing unranked it diverges and is separate. If that is the color that you are talking about. Or maybe my score screen randomly bugs and doesnt show it all of the time?

Just a thought, that would be really incredibly useful for training I think. Que times are already like 40-60 seconds. I dont want them to be even longer. Obviously it would be pretty cool if you are just getting frustrated with a certain matchup, but que times would be wayy to long probably.
