The number of victims is not yet final and has changed over the course of the reporting.
The suspect in a series of shootings that left at least six people dead in Santa Monica, Calif. on Friday was killed in a shootout with police, authorities said. At least two people were killed in a Yorkshire Avenue home that was burned, then the gunman fired on people in a series of "random encounters" that proceeded along Pico Boulevard toward the final shootout in Santa Monica College library, authorities said.
The agency received several 911 calls involving reports of shots fired in the area.
The gunman had attempted to evade pursuing officers, exchanging gunfire with them. He entered the library, accosting several students in the college library and trying to shoot at them, Seabrooks said. Police shot and killed the gunman inside the library, she said. The two-year college in the 1900 block of Pico Boulevard is on lockdown Friday afternoon. All schools in the Santa Monica area were on lockdown, according to the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District.
Lockdown orders at Santa Monica High School were lifted about 3 p.m. The school’s graduation set for Friday evening will go on as scheduled, a student told NBC4. Lockdowns at 10 other campuses were also lifted.
Afternoon and evening finals on Santa Monica College's main campus scheduled for Friday were canceled.
Should we really implement forceful and lasting measures to stop all this shooting in the US? What is/are the best solution(s)?

Doesn't matter how many of these happen. Congress will not substantively restrict firearms in the foreseeable future. Too much money and politics involved.
RIP to the victims.

The obvious countermeasure is to arm librarians.

I go to school there... Quite scary.
The library is very large so I would imagine hopefully it was okay...

Made me laugh. Lets see what the NRA will release, would be the logical next step after arming teachers i guess.
Edit: obvously, condolences.

It's quite odd that a shooting occurred in the state with the most restrictive gun laws in the country, isn't it?

Not really. When sick fucks like this know their only obstacle to killing as many as they can is the police all they need to do is move fast enough that the police can't keep up. If this faggot had tried to do this in Switzerland where everyone has guns he might have managed to kill one person before he died.

I feel extremely bad for the people who no longer live because of this. My condolences.

The mods don't allow you to use these incidents to push your politics. There is a thread for gun control discussions. Hopefully the injured can recover.

Sucks a ton, <3 to all the affected families

What's the point of this thread other than make retarded attacks against pro-guns/pro-gun control?

Wow, I was wondering why I saw a train of 15+ undercover cruisers roaring down the 10 West as I was driving today.

Jesus today is a bad day, first my prof's wife calls him in the middle of class cause of a school lock-down (she's a teacher also at an elementary) and now this... RIP T__T

Let's think about this. How would you even begin to implement it? Might be somewhat harder to hide an AK-47 or something in a vehicle (though still very possible when broken down) but a handgun forget about it.
Laws like that might be obeyed by law abiding folks, and not by the ones who would use weapons for illegal purposes so I don't think it would help.
This is the reason why "disarming" America most likely can never work.

you cant compare the liberal gun laws of switzerland to those of the us. I actually know people in switzerland(unlike you), and if you think that there are many gun nuts(or even close to that) there, like in say texas, you are completely mistaken. Dont talk about shit you have no clue about
