Just messing around at the library and there's a sonic wall filter. Can't use proxies because they're blocked. And though changing the language works to get on the sites I want to... for whatever reason when I try to download them the language thing gives out.
Any advice? Just want to DL shit. |

With Firefox
Tool > Options > General Tab > Connection Settings > Paste in Automatic Proxy URL
http://195.242.36.3:3128/
Hope it works, I never tried this with a filter before.
Edit: also be sure to select Automatic proxy and not direct connection to internet.Last edit: 2006-10-11 12:42:36 |

I feel weird to bump a 5 years old thread lol. It's better to necro a thread than to make a new one, I guess 
Anyway, sonic wall from my school's server recently blocks TL  I tried to convince the tech administrator in my school to unblock it, but she refused because it was the sonic wall that decided to block TL and she trusted their decision. Now, I don't know how to kill time during my free period >.< Does anyone know how to get around this thing? or it there a way to file a claim to sonic wall to convince them to unblock TL ? Thanks in advance. |

I get around our filter using a SSH tunnel. There's a few good guides if you google "ssh tunnel proxy"
The basic plan goes:
Install cygwin (assuming you are using windows, if you are on linux, ezpz, mac, idunno)
While installing packages for cygwin, select OpenSSH server (if you are on linux, it should already be installed)
Forward port 22 on your router to your computer
Start the SSH server on cygwin, either directly and leave it running (ghetto but ezpz) or install it as a windows service (hard but seamless)
Then, from school, use PuTTY on the school computer to create a dynamic tunnel on port 8080, then send Firefox's traffic to localhost:8080

Wow, thanks for a seemingly practical solution, sir  But, unfortunately, because of my current situation, I don't have a full control of my PC right now. Plus, the school computers do not have firefox installed. They only have IE and chrome as a browser.Last edit: 2011-11-12 07:30:12 |

| My school used to have a sonic wall filter, and to get around it we would just put an s in front of the http in the link you want to go to. I think it makes a secure connection or something. Granted, this seems like an obvious fix and may just be because our tech department was somewhat inept, but its worth a shot I'd say. |
