This is a translation of an official release note for the new Starleague maps by Cho Seungyeon, a staff of Ongamenet Map Production Team. The team captain, Kim Jintae(the creator of Bifrost and many other top quality maps) is certainly more popular, but all four Ongamenet Map Production Team members are greeted with utmost respect and at the same time keenest criticism whenever they decide to communicate with the fans in websites; like in PGR21.com where this article is originally posted.

날씨는 점점 쌀쌀해지지만, 매니아 여러분들의 열기가 그런 쌀쌀한 날씨조차 녹여버리고 있는 것 같습니다. 그리고, 스타리그는 2006년을 마감하고 2007년을 여는 새로운 시즌을 준비하고 있습니다.
The weather is getting colder as days go by, but you, loyal fans, seem to melt away even those harsh weathers with your heartwarming passion. And, Starleague is nearing its end of this 2006 season, and is preparing for the next new 2007 season.
돌이켜 보면, 지난 시즌만큼 맵에 대한 논란이 적었던 시즌도 드물지 않나 싶습니다. 협회와 각 팀 주재의 맵 TF팀의 운영이 이제 제법 안정화되었고, 정밀한 테스트와 정확한 판단이 이러한 괜찮은 맵들을 낳지 않았나 생각해 봅니다.
Looking back, there was not such a season with such few debates about balances of map as the last season. The map management of TF team under the influence of Kespa and all pro-teams more or less have set in place, and scrutinizing tests with accurate evaluation seemed to have contributed to the birth of more refined maps.
오늘은 올 12월에 개막할 2006 신한은행 스타리그 시즌3의 공식맵을 공개하고자 합니다. 이번 시즌은, 계속해서 지적되었던 공통맵 제도와 프로리그와의 병행 맵사용으로 인하여 초래된 지나친 경기수를 보완하는 방향으로 맵 선정이 이루어졌습니다. 그 결과, 되도록 많은 맵을 시즌마다 바꾸어 맵의 지겨움을 탈피하고 좀 더 재미있는 경기를 보여드리기로 결정하였고, 기존에 사랑받던 맵인 'Tau Cross(타우 크로스)'와 '신 백두대간'은 아쉽게도 개인리그에서는 작별을 고하게 되었습니다.
Today, I would like to introduce the official maps for Shinhan Bank Starleague Season 3 starting this December. Taking continuous feedback regarding excessive number of matches deriving from the shared map system(with MBCgames) and overlapping maps in proleague, into consideration, we have selected the maps to assuage possible frustration in the future. As a result, we have decided to change as many maps as possible every season to mitigate tediousness, and unfortunately Tau Cross, and Shin Baekdoodaegan will say their goodbyes in the next Individual League though very popular during the past.
신규맵으로는, 총 8개의 후보 중 '공식맵의 대중화'를 모토로 국민맵 로템을 새롭게 리모델링한 'Reverse Temple(리버스 템플)'과 2인용 전략형맵의 계보를 잇는 'Hitchhiker(히치하이커)'가 선정되었습니다. 자세한 설명은 밑에서 드리겠습니다. 공통맵은 'Longinus II(롱기누스 II)'와 'Reverse Temple(리버스 템플)'로 결정되었습니다.
For the upcoming new maps, two were selected among the 8 candidates. With the slogan 'The Popularization of the Official Maps', everyone's pocket map the Lost Temple has been remodeled into Reverse Temple; and inheriting the lineage of two player, strategical map 'Hitchhiker' has been selected. More explanations will be provided later. The shared maps has been chosen to be Longinus II, and Reverse Temple.

'Neo Arkanoid'는 기존의 저그 강세를 해결하기 위하여 수정되었습니다. 본진미네랄이 10덩이가 됨으로써 저그를 상대하는 타종족이 보다 빌드선택과 운영에 유연해질 수 있도록 배려했습니다. 또한 앞마당 옆 분지지형(선수들 사이에서 일명 '쓰레기장'이라고 불리던 곳)을 리모델링하여 게임성을 높였으며, 기존에 존재하던 기타 자잘한 버그들도 수정되었습니다.
'Neo Arkanoid' was patched to abate the prolonged Zerg dominance. The starting mineral increased to 10, allowing other races facing zerg to be more flexible in their selections on specific builds and their macro coordination. Also, the secluded area next to the frontyard expansions(dubbed Trash Dumping Yard by progamers), were reconstructed to be more utilized during games, and miscellaneous bugs were fixed.

'Reverse Temple'은 '공식맵의 대중화'를 모토로 '국민맵'으로 불리는 로스트 템플을 현대 감각에 맞게 재구성한 맵입니다. 로스트 템플의 지형을 역으로 뒤집고 밸런스 조율을 위해 OMAT에서 그동안 선보였었던 중립건물, 윗입구, 미네랄 길목 등을 활용하여 현대적 감각에 맞게 재구성하였습니다. 테스트 결과 로스트 템플이 가지고 있던 비대칭적인 경기양상의 장점을 가지면서도 본진이 역언덕이 되어 기존 로템과는 다른 경기양상을 보이는 등 전반적인 호평 가운데 종족 밸런스에서도 안정적인 모습을 보여줄 것으로 기대된다는 평가입니다.
Reverse Temple has been redesigned adhering to the current trend with the slogan "The Popularization of the Official Map". The landscape height has been reversed, and redesigned to adhere to the current trend applying neutral building, top entrance, and mineral blockade(demonstrated with OMAT) to equalize the balance. Along with the test results showing many different gameplay styles(compared to the original Lost Temple)with sunken starting point, but still being able to salvage the excitement the non-congruency(of the map) creates, the map received general appreciation; and it is expected to perform with stable balance.
한편 Reverse Temple은 기존에 온게임넷이 선보였던 '독특한 맵을 중심으로한 제작방향'을 벗어나 팬들에게 보다 가깝게 다가가기 위해 특별히 제작한 맵으로, 기존의 온게임넷 옵저버맵 배포 정책과 다르게 리버스 템플은 옵저버맵, 트레이닝 맵 모두 포함하여 배포됩니다.
In another note, Reverse Temple, off the course in "direction of production primarily focusing on unique maps" that Ongamenet has so far pursued, specially created to be more fans-freindly, will be distributed with both observer and training version, not abiding by the past regulation of Ongamenet map distribution doctrine.

'Hitchhiker'는 온게임넷에서 전통적으로 추구해왔던 모토인 '전략적인 플레이'에 중점을 둔 2인용맵으로, 맵의 중앙을 가로지르는 골짜기를 사이에 둔 양쪽의 큰 전장에서 동시다발적으로 벌어지는 난전과 게릴라전에 초점을 맞춘 맵입니다. 근래에 보기 드물었던 가난한 맵으로 맵에 견제요소가 많고 길목이 다양해 힘싸움 보다는 전략적인 가능성이 매우 높습니다. 테스트 결과, 다양한 게릴라전과 난타전이 중심이 되는 경기양상으로 기존의 자원전 지향적인 경기패턴과는 다른 모습을 보여주어 기존의 경기양상에 새로운 바람을 불어넣는 모습을 보여줄 것으로 기대되고 있습니다.
Hitchhiker, focused on 'strategical playstyle' the traditionally upheld slogan of Ongamenet, is a two player map focused on the multi-regional and guerrilla battles taking place in two large battlefields with a canyon diagonally placed through the center. A map, economically straitened(a rare aspect in current maps), contains many catalysts accentuating minor, but numerous harrassment; and many narrow routes most probably creating strategical battles rather than macro-coordination tug-of-war.

(*1) Compartmental Category - This is a system created by the staff members of Ongamenet Map Production Team to facilitate the identification of each map by its categorical aspects. They are listed in this formation, [1] [2] [3] [4], [1] referring to the type of starting point, [2] type of the general map terrain, [3] type of most frequent battles, [4] type of game coordination. They have about 25 different terms total. They are very specific, and informational, but very complicated (especially for those not necessarily interested in maps). In other words, as much as I'd like to introduce the terminology, the history of map creation, and various news regarding 'pro' map production staff(aka map makers of Ongamenet), it just methodically can not be done in a paragraph or two. So, if there is a strong demanding census, on full scale explanation of Map Compartmental Category in the near future, I'll make that my next goal.
(*2) - Geez. I like this guy for his maps, but his grammar, and writing style is just, too much. Only technically, will he not be condemned for his wordy virtual run-on sentence. My attempt to translate as grammatically identical(so as not to miss any information) as possible seems so feeble and futile against this mammoth of needlessly complex writing style. However, don't mistake my frustration as an annoyance to the complex(almost impossible to comprehend for those light viewers) map compartmental category system. That system is legit, and is used by the Ongamenet Map Production Team and avid to-be-map-creators.
Although there is also an official release note for the MBCgame maps(it is very unfortunate I have no choice but to think this way) but their lack of pristine professionalism in map creation(and furthermore in various aspects of running a league) leaves me indolent. (Why do they fall so far behind? Damn it. After all there are only TWO leagues in professional Starcraft in Korea). I really hope they get a hold of themselves and light some fires to their B-rated league. Then Savior would no longer be treated(or mocked) as a minor league progamer no more even by those most foul and immature fans. Oh well
