| yes it should be awfully difficult to defend that vs a strong 2 gate goon push. on the other hand i think this wall would kick ass in a 2v2 scenario with the ally helping you to fend off the early attacks while you get a quick cc at natural followed by a bunker if the attacks persist and then siege tanks. |

Hey everyone, I just registered, so I'm not sure of how my question gauges on the importance scale.
I not too long ago started playing iccup maps. I'm not really an avid Starcraft player.
I played around on python, trying to figure out why I couldn't make all the starting positions small unit proof. Anyhow, I found this forum while searching for answers.
My question is: In what scenarios is walling worth the hassle? I understand that against protoss, walling can be pretty useful in early game. But really, in what other scenarios is walling worth it? |

| the most impressive walling is the walling at 12 o'clock position @ paranoid androide by xellos in wcg 2005. he did it with 1 depot and 1 rax... pimp stuff |

I've seen many of Brat's games on Python, he has never walled at the natural, and it would be really stupid to do so. |

Well I just witnessed zerglings ran through the hole on the left side of the rax and on right side of supply when I did that wall. I tried to do this myself later but was unable to. Here is link to replay So could you propose something else? In 1.2 I used to make 3 supply and one hole was blocked with SCV but now It wont work..., and 3 SCV is a bit expensive to be kept idle (3 holes to cover). http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/27/18899734.jpg]Rep in pic (click the pic and you will have access to all 4). I play 2/2 so I need to have zergling proof wall.Last edit: 2012-03-16 20:15:05 |

There is no zergling proof wall with 2 depots and 1 rax afaik. I think it is possible to wall with 3 depots and 1 rax - like 2 depots (where your scv is in the screenshot) top, then rax beneath and one depot to the right.
edit: I think I was wrong but there is a way to wall in zergling tight with a factory. Doesn't help if you go mms though. :DLast edit: 2012-03-16 20:33:33 |

| Between rax and depo, lings have to kill it in order to get in, that gives me enough time to bring more SCV or to get enough rines, and I make 3 depos. Last edit: 2012-03-16 20:35:00 |

See: Walling as Terran
this thread: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=73364,
and List of Unit and Building Sizes.
In particular, this image: + Show Spoiler + and the fact that zerglings are 16x16 should help.
Basically, to be ling tight between two depots, they need to be vertical. So you could place a depot right below the gap in those two depots. Moreover, you need depot above or above-diagonal to rax.
and from the wiki link:
If it's critical that your wall doesn't allow enemy units to pass, as in a 2v2 where you scout twenty Zerglings/Zealots coming toward you and you just discovered your wall is not tight, the easiest way is to fix it with one or more SCVs. Place the SCV in the exact position where units get through. Select the SCV together with a Marine and click Hold Position. Optionally, use a second SCV to repair the first.

Yes, but like I said what am I spouse to do if lings get by where they should not? Is it some kind of error? How is it exactly with buildings and parts of terrain when we make wall.

There is no error. This wall is just not ling tight. If you read the liquipedia link that has been posted you will understand better.Last edit: 2012-03-16 21:39:27 |

| It's impossible to make a ling tight wall in that position. Very few walls are ling tight, IIRC only supply above barracks and supply above supply are ling tight. |
