push up builds tricep/chest
you do have other muscles, you could do non weight techniques for a lot of them, but they are not as effective
there are always some people who are small at every gym...dont be embarassed, just go |
| | if you guys could use google and post direct links to the maphacks here it would be greatly appreciated. - Nazgul |

Willie it doesn't matter how small you are. Just keep in mind that these huge guys with massive bricks were small too |

| Weights build bulky muscle, pushups build lean muscle. |

depends on how many reps you (are able) to do
if you lift so much that you can do 1-3 reps you get strong muscles 3-10 = big (thats what the girls like so this is what you do) 10+ lean |

Get older. You're still growing in lenght, I doubt you will grow any muscles at your age t t |

Push ups also work your stomach, shoulders and back. They pretty much work the whole upper body. But they are a waste of time when compared to lifting weights and doing exercises that specifically target individual muscles. Except for a bit of cardio or warming up they are a waste of time when compared to what you could be doing instead.
You will see very little, if any results if you do only pushups each day.

I don't know if its fact or not but I've heard that if you start serious weight lifting before you've stoppped fully growing then you can negatively effect your body growth? |

Not entirely, but you shouldn't overdo it on the exercises, then it can happen. If you're 18~19 you can lift whatever you want :o as long as you can bear it =] If you're under that age you gotta take it easy. |

FrZ[9] just start lifting weights? It's just bullshit that you can hurt yourself and stop growing because you are young, it will only happen if you lift much more than your body can take. i got me one of those things you put in the door opening (so you can make pull-ups) when i was like 14. my arms got pretty muscly by that. chest as well but not as much as my arms but there's nothing like go to the gym |

| Gymnasts are usually small because they exercised too much when they were little |

No, they are small because they focus on cardio training, the type of wieght training you do will determine the type of size you will obtain...
I'm 6'4 225Lbs, if I wanted to become huge, I'd lift about 15% of my wieght, if I wanted to become strong, I'd go for 20%, if I wanted to tone my body, I'd lift about 5-10%, if I was huge, but I had huge viens, I'd do cardio, cardio is the best excersize you can get, but it won't give you quick results, the tight six pack abs, the bulging arms, it'll make sure you and your heart/lungs/etc are healthy...
and to answer your questions, push ups will help you get rid of "man-boobs" and widen your chest, it will also make your arms pretty solid, those are the results you'll notice the most, after about 3 months, you should see good results. But make sure you do it right, don't strain yourself, or your arms and shoulders can get really damaged, try to do about 10-30 push ups a day, start slow, then build up each week, don't do them alone or nothing will happen, try to do some jogging/climbing stairs, and sit ups, though be careful because doing situps the wrong way it the easiest way to hurt yourself, after a couple of months, you'll start to see results, depending upon how you train, and you diet/wieght/hieght before, your results will vary....which reminds me, the most important part of any work out is your diet, if you are eating alot of fast food, then your results won't be as noticable...if you eat right, you can get huge/in shape easyLast edit: 2003-09-11 18:46:22 |

push ups pull ups. just 1 year isnt enough. hehe, i know that, i hate weight lifting. i use 10 pounds dumbbells sometimes, but thats about it. WL so unhealthy, ur heart gettin fucked up. people who do weights as esko said 1-3 times r strong, yeah, but they cant do shit, like for example in a fight they can do 1-3 strong hits, tho probably miss, and then they re done- they r tired. people who work with small weights & pushups pullups can fight mad nice-.-
