I would just go to the fitness centre. People really don't laugh there or something if you only use the light weights. In the begin you suck at it but you will notice that if you go 3 times a week you will grow very fast.
Only pushups etc will not build up any muscle. I suppose you want to muscle up for the ladies so you you better get over the shy part and showing yourself in the fitness centre could be a good thing Really, not everybody there is a hotshot.. I say just check out some different ones and look which one you feel most comfortable in, the supersized men typicly go all to the same centre.
Also advice from an instructor can be very good, i dont know your age but especially when you are still growing it's important to be adviced because you must not overtrain. |

Take it from a guy in the Army Reserves.
You know how many pushups I've done while I was in basic?! Granted pushups arn't the best way of targeting and stimulating your muscle groups, they help to build leaner muscle. They target your chest (mostly), your upper back, and do work your abs (but not very much).
The best way is go to a gym and lift weights on a regular basis, or else go out and buy The Crossbow from www.thecrossbow.com. I bought one after I got home from basic and I love it .Last edit: 2003-09-11 19:40:48 |

I will also be working out again from next week  Have done that for pretty long time but when i went living on my own it was simply not payable ;( My new school got a cheap gym and can't wait to get rid of my belly and build up a bit again. |

take it from a guy that does boxing and martial arts
push ups make you very strong but you dont get muscles to show to the ladies. And I would really really advise not to use weights under 16/17. They do dmg your body and they do stop you from groing. If you want to work on your body and you are not 16 yet train with your own weight and do more exercises for your condition instead of your muscles. | I've been going to the gym for a while and me along with some of the other stronger guys usually take it as a compliment when a beginner asks us for help or advice. By no means is anyone going to make fun of anyone for anything. Just make sure you read up alot because weight training is an exstensive subject and their is alot to learn about. the guys who have 'ugly' muscles are guys who take steroids. Trust me, you won't get that when you go to the gym a couple of times.
Casper is 100% correct. The guys there don't care one bit how you look. Just concentrate on yourself.
I don't think you'll get a nice chest without using weights. pushups may help, but it won't be that impressive.

Push ups do not make u a muscle man (Schwarzenegger), they rather make u a fit man (jackie chan), and they do not affect your back at all(pull ups do) they affect triceps(elbows close to body) or chest (elbows wide apart. Sultan, how the fuck will I become huge if I bench press 15-20% of my weight (that's like 10-16 kgs) I bp 110% now, if I go back to 20% I'll just lose my shape, thus you should count how many reps and sets you do, not bodyweight? and it's absolutely ok to work out with weights if you are 15 (my former classmate bench presses 50x12 when he was 14(he was 5'9" then; he's 6'3" now)) the key here is some advice from older and experienced guys: don't be a slightest bit afraid to ask for help - if a person is not a complete arsehole he will introduce you to all the necessary exercises and most probably provide you with a routine. and you surely should visit some site// get a bodybuilding magazine//book my 2 cents

yeah my new school got also got a gym. it's free, but it isn't very high quality, and it's prety small. but it is enough. it's got everything you need but if there are like 7+ people there it will get pretty crowded |

If you dont want to do weight lifting and you just want to get in shape you should just have a good diet. Alot of cereal, proteins and try not to eat any fat. Run everyday around 6 or 7 PM cuz thats the best time to do it. When you get older and stop growing ur muscles will grow by themselves. I go to the gym only like once every 2 weeks. That does nothing to your muscles, I only go because I want to try myself out. I am 17 and I year ago I could not lift in chest 30 Kg. Now just by eating right and practicing sports that train your lungs I can pull a maximum of 80 kg in chest. For weightlifters it is nothing but you still get thick. Push-ups and pull-ups must be done everyday. |
