2. Download a program for recording your screen output, such as Camtasia or... that... other one that start's with an H. 3. Download the codec of choice. DivX recommended. 4. Download VirtualDub. 5. If you have Camtasia, then do the following, otherwise you're on your own: - Effects --> Cursor --> Hide Cursor - Options --> Preferences: - Video Setup --> Techsmith Screen Capture Codec (key frame every 100, Configure for Faster Compression) - choose frames/second (I have it set to 15.0, dunno what the recommended one is) - Program --> Hide Capture Rectangle, Solid Capture Rectangle, and Round frame size all checked; everything else unchecked 6. If you want audio as well, then do the following: - Effects --> Audio --> Record Audio - Options --> Preferences: - Check "Interleave audio" and set it to something like every 1 second - Audio Setup --> PCM format, 11.025 Khz, 16 Bit (8 BIT SOUNDS AWFUL), Mono 7. Go to Options --> Preferences --> Hotkeys and decide which hotkeys to use (e.g. F9 for start and F10 for end) 8. TURN OFF hardware acceleration (should be in your Display Properties --> Troubleshooting) 9. Start SC. Go onto BNet. Go into your game. Start your game. 10. AFTER THE GAME HAS STARTED, build + spread your workers, then press F9 to begin recording. 11. Once the game is over, press F10. The score screen and probably anything afterwards will come out really messed up in the VOD, if you choose to go beyond the end of the game. 12. Open the recorded file with VirtualDub. Set the following options: - Video --> Compression --> DivX 5.0.2 Codec (or whatever the latest version is) --> Configure --> 160 kbps encoding bitrate - Video --> Full processing mode - Video --> Filters --> Add --> 2:1 reduction (high quality) 13. If you recoded audio as well, then do the following: - Audio --> Full processing mode - Audio --> Compression --> MPEG Layer 3 (or MP3) --> 20 kbps, 11,025 Hz, Mono 14. Select File --> Save as AVI to save your compressed VOD. Okay, I think that's everything

Otherwise, thanks a ton for your guide. After a few times of doing it I no longer have to reference this post for reference! Showing people how to play this game was never easier with this approach =)

update: 5 frames per second sucks too. 11.025 khz 16 bit mono is still staticy too. try something higher. update: 6 frames per second sucks too. update: 7 frames per second is still unpleasant but perhaps it is useful enough. update: 8 frames per second doesnt seem to be an improvement on 7. maybe slightly less problem with the boxes u draw not showing up properly and things like that. update: 9 frames per second definitely better. but i want a little smoother. 12.000 khz 16 bit mono seems kinda staticy im gonna raise it again. update: 10 fps still doesnt get my boxes right which sux. seems very watchable tho. 11 fps the same pretty much, slightly smoother :/ water looks gay in camtasia because camtasia doesnt save pallete changes update: 12 fps is smooth enough except for drag box u cant really see it being made sometimes it gets fucked still. gonna try 13 --bb 13 seems good enough. im going to try 12.5 next :-) also gonna try raising the sound quality again 16.000 kHz 16bit mono kinda harsh at times not satisfied with 12.5 boxes :| did not like 12.05 khz sound raising again ok tried 13 fps again it doesnt get the boxes right. also 24 khz is making ugly pops in my ear ok the boxes still not okay on 14 now i guess. hopefully 15 will do it. ok 15 fps still not getting the boxes i want. if it werent for that i could go with much lower. gonna try 16 next. 16 still seems to get some boxez wrong gonna try 17. 17 same thing. gonna try 18. boxes still fuk up some i wanna see wtf im selecting so gonna try 19. :

Hide Capture Rectangle is the only Capture Option enabled. Input is Fixed Region W640 H480 with origin 0,0. Audio recording is enabled in Effects. If these settings don't work for you then I have no idea what's wrong.

I don't think VirtualDub supports anything other than AVI encoding. I just use Adobe Premiere to encode my VODs in WMV format. If you don't have that you may be screwed =]
