I was just looking for the chaoslauncher thread (the original one) and entered "chaos" as the keyword. Now, while I got a bunch of threads pertaining to the launcher, I didn't get the one I wanted.
However, when I changed the keyword to "chaoslauncher", I got the thread I was looking for.
So the search function works by looking for whitespace delimited strings rather than by umm, how would I describe it... like, strings, anywhere. I understand that this is because of CPU usage, and if we searched for "fuck", it would have to search through many more string 'regions' to find stuff like motherfucker, buttfuck, fucking, fucktoss, etcetc and could be a burden.
So as a compromise I was wondering if the search could be modified slightly to look for string regions that follow whitespaces rather than ones that are both preceded and followed by whitespaces.
The reason for this, is that "chaos" would return both "choas" and "chaoslauncher", "muta" would return "muta", "mutalisk", "mutalisks", etc. Right now, conjugations of verbs, plurals of nouns, and other derivatives of basic search components dont come up in the search results. The consequence of this is that (a) it becomes cumbersome to search, then re-search, etcetc (b) it should somewhat help the users who search for "muta", and find nothing but had they searched for "mutalisk", they would have gotten the threads they were looking for. Similar things would happen with "micro" vs "microing", "hotkey", "hotkeys", "hotkeying", etcetc. I'm sure pple could come up with many other examples as well.
Then again I can't deny the merits of having an EXACT search like the one we have right now, when doing a search for a word that is relatively common (and occurs as a sort of a prefix to more words), so perhaps a checkbox for doing EXACT searches while having the more lenient search as the default would be a good compromise?

I think clearly the solution here is developing some kind of mind-reading search tool that one can implant into his own brain. After thinking of something it will automatically search for it.
Of course this tool will serve a double purpose. If a user posts for help without searching it would fry his brain.

Don't give away your trade secrets like that. You have to maintain the illusion of mastery.

I was never able to find exactly what I was looking for with TL search. The google site search works for me.
