Elite Squad: The Enemy Within One of the best none-Hollywood films I ever seen, at the same level of City of God(not surprising that it's the same write for both of the films).
A MUST watch. 9.2/10 |

A Swedish movie that takes place in Gothenburg, and is based on true events. The main plot is that there is a gang of young robbers which consists of a couple of boys in the ages of 12-14. These boys have elaborated a scheme called the "little brother number" or "the brother trick", which involves advanced role-play and gang rhetoric rather than physical violence.
I think that this movie was superb. I sat on the edge of my seat during the entire screening. I highly recommend this movie to everyone on this forum, as I am sure that there are subtitles available. |

Just saw The Help and I must admit I really liked it. Reviews for this have been kind of mixed, with a lot of critics proclaiming it at the best picture of the year and others saying it was pretty stereo-typical, but I'd probably have to lean closer to the former. There are some really good characters (Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Bryce Howard, Jessica Chastain especially) and the overall message/storyline is pretty good. One of the few movies that has brought me to the verge of tears. Yeah, I think I'm gonna go ahead and say it was the best I've seen of 2011 yet, even better than Drive. |

Enjoyed it. Those two films both make me feel ashamed for the life I'm living. |

I don't watch TV too often and when I do I skip commercials, but I still felt overly exposed to this movie.

Crazy, Stupid, Love.
Very, very good comedy. Deserves a 9/10 in my book. The cast is pretty awesome and the story is not as stupid and obvious as in normal romantic comedies. I was very stressed out about life today before I watched this, and afterward I felt much more relaxed, what more could you ask for in a comedy. |

Haha, I'm not much of a person for bollywood movies where as the rest of my family loves them (I'm from India) but this movie was actually hilarious, sad, and overall really well made. I recommend it. |

Alatriste
A very nice movie showing the life of a XVII century veteran soldier. They've made a great job of doing the fight and war scenes in this one. They aren't pretty but short and brutal, exactly as they should. That's what you get when you hire some true professionals to re-create the actual style of the age (the same as was with Ironclad, the movie was rather bad but fight scenes there were superb).
P. S. This movie is in spanish, so keep that in mind.Last edit: 2012-03-27 10:32:53 |

Agreed. The movie is SO GOOD. It's a bit uplifting. I'm a bit depressed, disappointed actually. The movie helps counteract that.Last edit: 2012-03-27 10:56:24 |

Yeah, I reccomend that movie too. Far better than I expected going into it, was actually quite enjoyable. Pretty much any movie with Emma Stone, really.

It wasn't great, but it's worth watching IMO. A few good laughs here and there, plot wasn't stupid. |

It's a white person guilt movie. >.> Most of those characters are comfortable stereotypes.

How much TV do you watch? Advertisements for it were on so often. >.>
I'm not quite sure how to begin describing the movie besides saying that Kiarostami continues to be brilliant. Structurally it's similar to Before Sunrise but it unravels the other direction and gets more complicated as it progresses, and rather than being about something simple and ideal like love, it's much more focused on the actual relationship. It's still conversation driven and they jump from topic to topic, but it's essentially impossible to pin the characters down. Whether or not the characters are playing their own game is up to the viewer, and I think it's fairly safe to say that you will never interpret it the same way twice. Someone even said it could be considered a science fiction movie.
Ultimately, this all ties into the theme of the movie (and the book), take from it what you will. If you tend to fixate on logic/rules and consistency, like say... the Matrix or Primer promotes, then you might not enjoy it. It'll probably irritate everyone to some degree, but I think it's well worth it. If you don't mind getting lost, go for it. Brilliant acting, cinematography and lots of both subtle and overt imagery.Last edit: 2012-03-29 02:30:08 |

Hmm, I can definetely see why some people see it that, but I honestly only saw two of the characters as pretty stereotypical, and both were played so well that I have a hard time giving them too much flak on that part.
And really, you felt guilted? I never once got that feeling; instead it just made me hate the pre-civil rights South even more. |

No, I mean it's to alleviate white guilt. Kind of like the Blind Side. Like, it's a movie by white people, for white people, about black people.
I don't think it's a very good telling or representation of the pre-CRA South and it's unfair to both whites and blacks, especially the white women and black men.
This is the main stereotype I'm talking about, with regard to the maids.
