You're absolutely right Jibba about The Help.
On another note I saw the Descendants recently, worst waste of my time in a long time. What a shit film. |

Thank you. The movie was great! |

+ Show Spoiler + Awesome movie! Not your typical end-of-the-world film, really curious to hear what other people think about it. I really recommend not watching the trailer, I did and I feel it ruined half the movie for me.

Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance
It has to be the worst movie of the last decade. Seriously. There is absolutely nothing good in this movie. Thank you for ruining one of the best comic book characters Nicolas Cage, really...Last edit: 2012-03-31 09:14:46 |

Ok so...
Wow, really?!?? I just went through the last 40 pages of this thread, and after seeing numerous people asking for suggestions for good Korean movies, heaps of people replied with Park Chan-wook movies etc which are great and all.
But...
Has everybody forgotten A Tale of Two Sisters?? http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1143939-1143939-tale_of_two_sisters/
It's a fantastic horror movie, a must see film with a great plot and twist. It was remade into The Uninvited unfortunately. A typical, badly done Hollywood remake.
Also, looking at some particular previous posts, 13 (w/ Jason Statham)... DO NOT WATCH. Worst movie I've ever seen. Without a doubt. I have never ever stopped watching a movie because I couldn't stand it, but watching this is the closest I've ever come to doing that. I think 8% on RT pretty much sums it up http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/13-2010/
If you're really curious, just find the original called 13 Tzameti, which oddly enough is made by the same director as the remake and is apparently much better.
And to the guy who called No Country For Old Men an 'abysmal movie that should be buried and forgotten forever': I respect that you're entitled to your opinion and all, but honestly my opinion is that you must have horrible taste in movies if you think that about the Coen Brothers' masterpiece.Last edit: 2012-04-02 02:39:30 |

| ^ Korean movies are discussed slightly more in-depth in the Kdrama thread. But even there, only en passant. Pages 20 and onwards. |

The Darkest Hour
Really great concept and one of the coolest alien ideas out there. Also, it doesn't take place in the US but in Russia instead. All that for naught though as terrible acting and poor plot development ruin it. A pity. |

I quite enjoyed it, its probably one of the best zombie movies I've seen. Definitely not what I expected though. It seemed to focus on imagery a lot, which I liked, and less on action, which I didn't expected. It felt a little limited by budget, but that didn't bother me too much. The type of infected was also much more exciting than normal. They were quick and usually in small numbers, as opposed to the typical slow/retarded mass zombie horde. Ultimately what I liked best was how it focused on the post-apocolyptic behavior of the survivors rather than spending too much time focusing on how they defended against zombie waves. It was a nice change of pace
I know it's just details, but I have to point it out :3 They are not zombies. They are infected with a Rage virus, that makes them mindlessly violent. That explains their lack of eating victims and the running. But yeah, it is one of the best ''zombie'' apocalypse movies I've seen. The sequal(28 weeks later) was bad though.. At least compared to the prequel. |

Haha, ya I considered that when I posted, cause like you said they're not really zombies. But I just couldn't think of a better movie category to fit it under then a zombie movie. Maybe "post-apocolyptic" would be better. |

![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/cVDzY.jpg) I saw the remake version of this movie first, and it is excellent. I'm not talking about it as a "film achievement" but seriously it's exciting, plausible, and well-concocted. The alternate ending in this movie, compared to the original 2009 Swedish version, should hook many new fans to the Millenium series.
5.5/10
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/iuLhw.jpg) The original cinematic adaption is a recent must-see movie for it's genre. The slow-moving and thoughtful world-building is pleasant to a non-native of Sweden. The less perplexing mood and lighter dreadful psychological moments make it a little more acceptable to large audiences.
Plus I greatly prefer the tension and flirtation between the Swedish actors! 7/10Last edit: 2012-04-05 12:34:47 |

After watching Ghostbuster and Groundhog Day a while ago I wanted to watch another movie with Bill Murray. I've always heard nice things about Lost In Translation, but never seen it up to now.
To me it kind of seemed different than your usual movie. It's definately a very good movie that can make you think. The pacing and way it was filmed help that a lot and it has it's own distinct charm. |

And yes, I have to agree: 28 weeks later was not as good as its predecessor. The first half of the move was good, but the second half really ruined it for me. I thought the opening scene was intense, and I liked watching the military go through the process of resettling London because I thought it was interesting. But eventually, the second half became solely focused on the escape, and rescue, of the kids and their protectors. The characters they established as the protagonists weren't very interesting because they didn't have any kind of morale ambiguity. They always chose the "noble" option when faced with a conflict which made it to predictable. On top of that, I hated the kids. They fucked everything up to begin with, and their continued ignorance continued to grate on me. And finally, I thought it was too cheesy that their father kept reoccurring throughout the movie. He's a mindless infected, not a stalker. He shouldn't have been able to track them for so long without giving into some kind of mad brainless attack. |

Lovely movie. Sure, it has a direct message, but to be honest that's rather what today's movies typically lack. It's amazing to see a movie with a very obviously suboptimal staging (if you watch it you will notice it in the ending scenes at the very least) still beeing way more touching than the vast majority of perfectly staged movies. The scenario/world Miyazaki created is really great and imaginative, together with the great protagonist it makes the movie extremely enjoyable.
Saddening to read what the first English dub made of it, by the way. Seems the first cut released in the U.S. was completey removing any message from it and turned it into a fighting movie.Last edit: 2012-04-07 17:56:47 |

Just watched a dangerous method. Boring movie about psychoanalysis. Freud, Jung, and Jung's mistress. Nothing really to think about. Perfect sense was boring too. Couldn't get into a movie about an epidemic that made people not smell. |

monsters was quite good imo. I was surprised to find so much hate on imdb lol. I liked the female lead. She is like a camaron diaz that can actually be taken seriously. The ending was really a bummer though |
