I've had to answer this question so many times since I resubscribed to EvE. EvE is a sandbox game, so the question becomes "What do you want to do?". Most people take a sandbox, and try to construct things out of it. Some people will gather their friends and build something amazing out of all that sand. Other people will fling globs of wet sand at their neighbor's dog. Others will wet themselves down and roll around in it, only to have their mothers clean them up. The question is "What do you want to do?". If you think group PvP is fun, by all means join a corporation. But then you ask yourself, "What kind of PvP?" because you can pirate, and then you ask yourself, "What kind of pirating?" because there's noob-bashing, solo-ganking, small roaming gang ganking, etc., etc. Our corporation is being set up to be a completely self-sufficient empire. What that means is we have our PvPers who will defend our assets in times of war, our mission runners, who see fit to make money for themselves and the corp (mission running is the biggest thing that is taxed in a corporation), the miners, who sit in an asteroid belt and bring in minerals for the industrialists, who will be the ones building our replacement ships and parts, our Fleet Commanders and Officers (Me, Dexxus, and a few others), who do a little bit of everything partially because we enjoy it and partially because we have to. That aside, this sandbox game is described by its developers as "The USA's wild west of the 1800s". That is, the lawlessness, and the freedom to commit crimes without retribution from a government agency. You make your own justice. Everything you do in EvE is PvP related. Did you mine minerals and sell them on the market? Someone bought those and is going to use them to build their war machine. Buy a module off the market? You just paid for someone's new ship to kill their foes. Fire your guns at another player? That's the most direct PvP there is. Everything you do in EvE is PvP related, directly or indirectly. What aspect of that that you want to do is your choice.

I like mmorpgs which don't shove you with "objectives".
In eve, where there are even no level grinding, you can juts do anything you feel like.
Be it killing a few people, or creating a trade imperium or something |

| just wanted to shamelessly bump this thread. Anybody who was thinking about gettin in before should take a look at it now. The patch is coming out today and the servers are down today but after that a whole slew of new features are planned to come out. And when you get in you can contact dexxus ingame and get into our corp. We got a nice group of people running around. give us time and we'll all be in OMGWTFBBQZZ!!!!1!1!!1! battleships. Cmon and play. |

| Yeah, new patch looks nice, now there is double training speed of skills to 1.6M which is quite cool. The Corperation is also gaining strenght and soon most of us will be able to fly cruisers. Then we won't get raped 1v8 by a battleship :D. |

My newbie Amarr pilot is training learning skills at 4.7k SP/hour with just +3 implants in due to the accelerated training speed. My Achura main with 9x4 stats (3cha) trains at roughly 1.9k /hour with no implants to put that in perspective.
Now is a really good time to start out as if you focus your skills towards one specific area you can become competent at it extremely quickly. |

The one night SoT and Dex are gone we get a pack of frigates together and rape a bunch of guys in lowsec.
To non EvE players, we got a group of very cheap ships together, strapped them with as many guns as we could find and then swarmed over much bigger ships 30x the price and took them down. 3 of them. We tried ransoming one player back after he escape podded out but he was kind of rude so we had to kill him. |

| Well I downloaded the 14 day free trial my char or ship is Cordova85, I like the new tutorial it seems a lot more simpler but I'm still not done with the newbie zone/tutorial got tired and logged out. |

You get exponentially small returns on skill training over time. Training lvl 1 navigation gives you a speed boost for 250 exp points, lvl 5 gives you the same boost for 240,000 points.
So basically they'll always be slightly better because you'll have like lvl 1-4 in everything and they'll have lvl 1-5 in everything but when you grind the numbers actually although they have 10x your skill points they're only like 15% stronger.
That make sense? :S |
