| On a tangentially related note and as long as I'm soaking information up like a sponge, what are the advantages of being in a fleet for PvE? I assume you can't share missions for obvious reasons, but if you kill a rat do the other members of your fleet get the isk bonus? Really I'm just looking for a reason to play with some of my friends, because it seems like we're better off just running solo missions. |

thats not quite right. t2 weapons will give you 13% (8 specialisation, 5 from large turret 5) more damage, and also allow you to use t2 ammo, as you said. you cant really snipe without t2 ammo (well you can, but for shit dmg), and t2 large pulses will allow you to use scorch, which is fucking neat. also, t2 ammo is CHEAPER than faction ammo, not more expensive, and t2 guns are much cheaper than meta 4 guns (unless eve went through some sort of market revolution in the last 3 months). lat time i checked t2 rails were 1 mil a piece and meta 4 rails were around 8 mil. considering fittng requirements, yeah they can be tough, but most standard fits are relatively easy to fit, or become if you get a 3% implant.
Actually meta 4 prices did change because CCP messed around with drop rates. Arbalest cruise/siege launchers drop like candy now, as well as 'scout' large projectiles. I don't know about the 'modulated' and 'whatever the hell' gallente prefix ones are, but I assume CCP also changed their drop rates. And stop trying T2 ammo is kind of used for a specific role...and last time I did level 3 missions in a harbi the rats didn't orbit around me at scorch/aurora range all the time =(.
Damn you vill, stop trying to fix my paper explanation with your paper explanation. (Also SC2 beta Bo5 when it comes out yes?) |

If you don't know what T2 weapon to train for, train T2 drones. (light/med, with drone interfacing to IV or V)... imo
If you fly battleships or up, drones are your life saver in pve since what really controls whether you lose your ship or not isn't just how much tank, but how long scram frigates live. Every battleship out there have drone bays enough to fit a full set of mediums, and every faction barring Caldari have a battleship that fits sentry/heavy drones. Drones are also very useful in PvP, with a flight of warrior iis or ECM drones standard on anything that can fit it. If is also the few kind of skill that is useful even when flying support ships like logistics or even for a miner.
---- I feel that missiles are quite overrated in PvE myself, having flied cruise raven for a bit. Your damage against cruisers and down is horrid, defenders missiles can make a joke of your dps and you waste dps all the time with overkill. In a gun boat, even large guns can hit non-traversing frigates for full damage all the time and snipe them out by the dozen. The instant hit means you can ungroup weapons and stagger them a bit so that you don't waste shots on dead things, unlike missiles which may let a rat live due to a rep cycle, forcing you to overkill them. For something like a cruise navy raven, even the paper DPS is worst than most full skilled mission boats, like autocannon mael or sentry geddon, and you can only apply that to small targets with something like tri rigor with a tp with crazy fitting problems that can't be solved without throwing down a few hundred mil in faction tank. For a golem, full dps comes only after throwing away cap stability and any serious long term tank and any aggo mistake in hard missions may be the last, and even that does not out do the CNR in many missions due to range and insane explosion radius of rage torps and lack of space to fit AB without reducing applied dps. Compare that to a nightmare with 7 slot tank/utility or any of the drone boats it just doesn't feel safe at all. Now it is true that a set of rage torps on dual tp-ed BS is likely some of the highest dps from a mission ship (paladin with faction ammo/heatsinks can and can shield tanked machariel (basically, gank tank only) can match it) but it has all those other drawbacks.
Selectable damage is nice, but it is probably easier to avoid missions requiring certain damage profiles than pick missions that have no cruisers or defender missiles, imo.
Imo, the biggest advantage of Caldari missile boats is the shorter training time more than anything.Last edit: 2010-07-01 10:06:34 |

SWP you are wrong wrong wrong wrong
I would bet you pretty much anything that the cnr Hyey had was just about as fast as mission boats can be without spending the billions I did on the officer fitted cnr I have. and that one can run any faction mission. Caldari ships don't need to be cap stable to run missions properly..in fact if they are and you aren't using a pith a-type med your fit sucks.
I have never had an issue with tri rigor/tp fits on my CNR and with 3 rigor/TP I hit hac cruisers for over 1300 a voley which is plenty to kill them in 3 volleys.
I always set my drones on frigates while I rape everything else. Your point doesn't hold in that regard. Defender missiles have never been a real problem because a CNR uses seven launchers anyway. The thing is that caldari an run ANY mission very quickly where as gun boats have to be selective to be anywhere near as effectiveLast edit: 2010-07-01 14:53:05 |

I dedicate my 1337th post to our precious EVE corp. Hail!
Finally, I can post again and I'm free after so long. I just couldn't decide what to do with my stupid 1337th post anyway and now I finally figured that it's no fucking big deal.
Fly safe :x |

That should be obvious, you should campaign to FORCE ActiBlizz to allow cross realm play from the start. GET TO IT! *whip sound* |

that graph isnt telling half the story. the main attribute is dramiel's super-low mass, so the MWDs/ABs give it a greater boost than they give to even interceptors, and it has inherently insane agility. not to mention it dpses/tanks like crazy, has 3 drones, and a utility highslot |

Announcing The Hatchery, a corp for the influx of new TL players.
In early 2009, a couple dozen members of Team Liquid became interested in the world of EVE because of this thread, which documented the goings on in the war between Goonswarm and BoB. These members attacted themselves to a corp called Tactical Combat Systems, a corporation based in Alentene, in Verge Vendor. Alentene was a corp with a lot of opportunities for newbies. It was relatively close to Dodixie and not prohibitively far from Jita. It had a plethora of level 1 and 2 missions, and Alentene itself was a pretty healthy hub of activity (about 100-200 people at peak).
Very importantly for the small-gang orientation that TL pilots would soon follow, Alentene was close to a populous section of lowsec. Placid was a group of systems that always held ganking opportunties for the little newbies in TCSI, whether they were in Merlins, Caracals and Vexors, or, eventually, Drakes and Hurricanes. Doing the dance with other gangs of pilots roaming Placid lowsec was what got TL pilots accustomed to both FCing and following an FC.
We aim to emulate this environment with another Team Liquid corporation. Run by JP Bear, a veteran of EVE, and funded by him and Apturan Reech, this corporation will provide a few services for newbies looking to start their EVE careers off right. First of all, every newbie will be assisted in the purchase of the advanced learning skillbooks. This is a significant investment for someone new to the game, but it's an investment every new player should make. We'll help with that.
Furthermore, we'll be running reimbursement on cruisers and frigates lost on corp operations. When we take a fleet of frigates and cruisers out to lowsec, newbies should basically expect to die as they learn how to fly correctly. However, this doesn't have to mean that newbies have to lose bunches of isk while learning the game. We'll help make the transition from noob to competant pilot an easier one.
Every once in a while, we'll try to have an experienced member of Liquid come out and run a PvP gang. Learning by example is a powerful way to get better, and we hope that we'll be able to run a lot of these ops.
Most importantly, though, the TL corp will provide an environment where newbs can help each other learn the game. A few months after TLers all joined TCSI, they were experienced enough to make a new corp, Liquid Inc. Liquid Inc was based in lowsec but quickly moved to 0.0 as a part of Gentlemen's Club. How did Liquid pilots, all under 6 months old, become a corp capable of operating in 0.0? They weren't taught everything by an instructor. They taught themselves, and we want to create an environment where new TL pilots can do the same thing.
Join The Hatchery today!Last edit: 2010-07-02 12:42:07 |
