The first part is insulting. We are not similar in StarCraft knowledge. I am your superior in every fucking conceivable way. I didn't learn this game from Artosis, I learned this game by watching EVERY SINGLE FUCKING PROFESSIONAL GAME FOR THE LAST SIX YEARS. I have in me a vast knowledgebase of progaming theory, history, metagame, timing, strategy, tactics, every fucking aspect of this game. You have an elective class at berkeley taught by a C- protoss player. It makes me sick to see you drag an incredible name like yosh through the mud by associating yourself with him. yosh and artosis have been top competitive USA players for a long fucking time, they are more comparable to each other than to any other nonkorean player. but according to you, DESPITE THE FACT THAT THEY PLAY AT VIRTUALLY THE SAME SKILL LEVEL USING THE SAME KNOWLEDGE, Artosis is an old, washed-up talent. un-fucking-real.
Let me fucking tell you something: "UNIVERSITY" level starcraft player doesn't mean a goddamned thing. When I get around to playing StarCraft, I play with top nonkorean players, friends from msn and irc.. OH, AND SAINT[Z-ZONE] AND SEA[SHIELD]. You have no fucking idea who you're trying to compare yourself to here.
I'M failing to address the facts at hand? I post a GIANT FUCKING EXPLANATION OF WHY YOU ARE WRONG giving SPECIFIC EVIDENCE and showing LOGICAL FUCKING INCONSISTENCIES ON YOUR PART, and you respond with "i play with UNIVERSITY level players so clearly we're both bad players but I know more about sc than you".
Then, at the end, you CONTINUE THE LINE OF THINKING I JUST FUCKING DESTROYED, completely ignoring everything I said that paints a clear, concise picture of why you are fucking wrong.
Then you tell me it's "quite simple".

ShoCkeyy: A/S/L? Race?
Hot_Bid: 24/M/Long Island, NY: Protoss
ShoCkeyy: So how did you get sucked into what is known as TeamLiquid? And as well as the game called Starcraft?
Hot_Bid: Prior to college I had very little experience with competitive computer gaming. I was strictly a console gamer. This was partly due to the lack of broadband or a second phone line at my house, I'm sure. My friends also tended to be console gamers. I knew nothing more about Starcraft than having heard the name in passing. I couldn't have told you the difference between Starcraft and Warcraft back then (some people might argue that's still true).
I became capable of beating comps on my own and playing in public games on battle.net around the time intrigue came to my campus. He was a much better player who was also very friendly and helpful (I'd hope he'd be better considering his 'practice regime' in high school was to start playing when he got home from school, and stop to go back to school the next day). I began practicing with some people from my campus and he would occasionally review replays with me and offer advice.
From US. East I got recruited into a clan (SCC) which had several members that I still enjoy gaming with to this day. Within the SCC I honed my skills from D- to C- PGT with some additional training from intrigue. It was around this time that intrigue suggested I read up on strategy/etc. on teamliquid.
I wasn't very active for the first couple of months if I remember correctly. I thought teamliquid was primarily a site for discussing Starcraft strategy. My mind was blown when I saw the pimpest play videos from 2002 and 2004. I started to get into progaming.
A few months later I re-watched the pimpest plays videos and made a shocking discovery (don't laugh, it was shocking to me back then). The guy running around with the two archons in a shuttle and an arbiter tearing up the terran was none other than the guy who replied to my recent post (Rekrul vs Sylist). I excitedly messaged intrigue to which he responded something like "oh yeah, that's him." It was then that I began to realize what kind of community teamliquid really was.
PGT became ICCUP (not literally) and C- became a slightly more worthy C-. But when I graduated from college I became less interested in progaming (more by necessity than choice). I still go through fits where I play Starcraft but my attachment to teamliquid has always been to the community rather than the site's functionality. What Nazgul said in his interview last week was spot on.
ShoCkeyy: Wow, thanks intrigue for bringing hot_bid into our lives... Now on to how did you end up choosing protoss?
Hot_Bid: While I was still barely able to hold my own in public games, there was an online Starcraft tournament held at my campus (organized by another student with some help from intrigue). I was currently trying to train to be terran. My first match was against a guy who chose zerg. Through a combination of effort and luck I somehow managed to tank push him to death. In game two he switched to protoss which I had no idea how to play against (the map was lost temple). He went two gate zealots which I had never seen before. I was completely overwhelmed. It was an experience I will never forget. When I realized the potential effectiveness of the zealot rush, I immediately started focusing on protoss.
After training a little and reading up on teamliquid I began to realize several things:
1) Zealot rushes aren't actually imbalanced.
2) Protoss vs Zerg sucked (before the Bisu revolution)
3) I liked the protoss units the best
So even though my original reason for switching to protoss was dumb, I fell in love with them.
ShoCkeyy: Yes protoss is amazing
ShoCkeyy: Well you mention a lot about teamliquid and the kind of community it is. Has anything changed since you first joined?
Hot_Bid: The first thing that stands out to me is how many of the active posters have changed. Many of the posters (including staff) who were active back then rarely post anymore. There was also a huge influx of new posters at several points in time which remain active to this day. I still remember us talking about how many people were going to join teamliquid when Starcraft 2 was first announced.
I would add that the seriousness of the site has increased since I joined as well. Teamliquid is always striving to improve and is constantly undergoing new projects. The TSL would have been laughed at if someone proposed it when I joined, but became a reality only a few years later. The number of features has increased dramatically. The TLPD is a Godsend, as we all know. Minor aesthetic changes have gradually made the website into an appealing yet familiar sight.
I've also become friendly with many members of the community. It became a much different place for me as I got to know everyone. Even when I leave teamliquid, I'm often having online conversations with people I originally met through Teamliquid. If I had always been a lurker of teamliquid, I'm sure I would have stopped visiting when my interest in progaming waned.
ShoCkeyy: Well it seems that TL is a big part of your life, would you think so?
Hot_Bid: Teamliquid is one of a few sites that I visit to relax or unwind (or procrastinate). While I rarely am away from teamliquid for over a day, I don't consider it a big part of my life. Since I graduated from college, I've always had many things on my plate which trivialize the role of any online community. I don't even watch progaming closely, and I play much less Starcraft comparatively than I used to. Still, I get some of my best laughs and occasionally even rewarding experiences from participating in the teamliquid community. If teamliquid was taken from me, I'd probably be more upset than I realize.
ShoCkeyy: Now let's go into your role for TL. What do you see yourself as?
Hot_Bid: I have never seen myself as someone with a specific responsibility towards Teamliquid other than to be a good community member. My knowledge of Starcraft and progaming is dwarfed by many of the other members, so I can only offer good advice and help to newer players.
Instead, I've often tried to make contributions towards improving the community as a whole. My most insightful and useful posts were most likely on topics that have almost nothing to do with Starcraft, but I have always considered this to be okay since teamliquid is a place for Starcraft players/fans to engage in all sorts of discussions. I also am a huge fan of people sharing their specialized knowledge earned through years of experience, and try to do the same when I can. Even though you are forced to take what you read on the internet with a grain of salt, teamliquid has many people that I have a lot of respect for, and trust when they post on a topic in their area of interest. There are very few online communities where I can say this.
ShoCkeyy: How do you feel about your trolling? Is it something you're proud of? Do you enjoy doing it? You're as well famous for it, what do you think?
Hot_Bid: Unlike certain members of the teamliquid community, I do not consider trolling a goal. I'm sure I do it occasionally, but I feel comfortable saying that I generally do not troll people. It seems like people are quick to call anything that isn't a serious post a 'troll' these days, even if the goal wasn't to upset the other person or force them to type lengthy responses to your intentionally insensitive comments.
If I do something that even closely resembles trolling, I'll only be proud of it if many people find it amusing besides me, and yet the person who was targetted doesn't feel like he was attacked. I generally appreciate trolling-esqe remarks when they are very clever and reasonably tasteful.
ShoCkeyy: well thanks^_^
