Both Brotherhood and the original start from the beginning. The original anime has more filler/anime original stuff in the beginning, but its paced well and serves as good character development. Brotherhood goes past that alot quicker, and gets to material that the original anime never got to faster.
You can go straight into Brotherhood without watching any of the original. Its not like Brotherhood is a sequel or anything, its a remake.
So both are just worth watching then? I'm on ep five of the original FMA now, so far it seems like a pretty promising series. When I read some brotherhood vs original comparisons though I see alot that brotherhood is way better, so and so. So I thought maybe I should just skip the original.

FMA:B is with TTGL the best shonen action anime that there is, FMA is a pretty standard, decent show. But fma:b remains as one of my favourite shows lof all time!!1 of all time!!

They couldve ended this series with this ep and I wouldve been content. Of course I wouldve been asking for a second season for a continuation, cause its just too amazing!
I love how they didnt instantly make them qualify for Masters/Queen just based off of hard work and effort. It takes a lot more than that, it takes lot of sacrifice, and a lot of experience to be called the best of the best. The realism they added of what it truly takes to be on top is what makes me appreciate this anime a lot. Definitely a good slice of life aspect imo, capturing the realism and adapting it into an anime that the viewer can relate to.
We still got 2 more eps to go, and idc what they do with them at this point. Every single episode has always met or exceeded my expectations. I feel like theres no way that they could butcher this anime at this point. Im already won over.

Some might say so, and both shows have their merit, but Brotherhood is just overall better, and everything important in their overlap is covered in both.
I'm not sure about actual episode numbers, but like the first 12ish episodes of the original are done in like 5 or 6 in Brotherhood. So the original fleshes that early part out alot more (more or less everything up to Lab 5), but then the parts after that start going into anime-original territory, and are not nearly as good as the stuff in Brotherhood that happens after Lab 5.
