I really loved Girl Friends too. But sadly, most yuri, probably Girl Friends as well is meant to appeal to a male population for obvious reasons. Same with yaoi and me and my LGBT friends sometimes get a bit disapointed when we see this pulp writing. What bugs me the most is that they seem to make out that homosexuality is almost a choice.
Speaking for the non-ero yuri, the best guess I have is that it's about 50/50 male/female ratio. Pour example, the author of Girlfriends is a woman.
A friend of mine that doesn't even watch anime loved monster, though I haven't watched it myself
I might have liked Monster if it were half as long and I had gone into it with no expectations. Unfortunately, it was hyped up a lot, and I watched the entire thing expecting some great twist or awesome moment that never happened.
Darker than Black was a let-down as well, but mercifully short.

Arigatou Gozaimashita.
I don't know about down to earth, but what about School Rumble, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Fruit Basket or Ranma 1/2?
Btw, Chiharu v Emnjay has been confirmed for Sunday 3rd June 0900 KST. This may seem like a bad time to ask but uh, do I just install the stuff from ICCup and that's it? Also, I'll probably need someone to tell me how to find Custom Games and chat on the BW Client. :3
Forgot to mention this, just dl w/e the stuff is on the iccup website that will get you started with BW, and go to channel "courage" on the day. :D

Random things I'm reading time, because I'm bored as fuck and stuck on my writing.
Trinity Seven has a really rote plot, and some of the characters are boring, but the main character is so boss mode and the art is good enough for me to keep reading despite. He's everything a harem MC should be and then some.
Denpa Kyoushi is really fun to read, though some of the jokes are a bit too silly for my tastes at times. I hope they keep it on this sort of short, 2-5 chapter arcs and don't get pulled into a big overarching plot. This next setup gives me hope that we'll have a new character every couple weeks, which really works with this style.
Yamada-kun to 7-nin no Majo is kind of cool so far, but I fear they'll run out of material sooner rather than later. Unless something really picks up, the "body swapping leads to wacky situations but makes peoples' lives better" routine will get old really fast.
Wake Up Deadman was cool and different. This first part has been really damn great, I really want the next to keep it up. Good to see a series that has a lot of unabashed character development alongside well drawn action and gag humor. A lot of manhwa have been impressing me lately.
KissxSis really tried to set up plot, and then forgot about it for fanservice. I'm much happier when the series does both together, but honestly if I wanted to watch tantalizing fanservice, I'd just find hentai.

I expect nothing from the successor of Yankee-kun except for decent comedy and good faces.
oh wow your list is really similar to mine. you read almost everything I did (3/4 lol) and I'm working on Ever17 atm. Only one you're missing that I've read is Deardrops which was really great imo, so I'll rec you that. And by that, I mean Riho route was great. Other routes are beyond bad, don't waste your time with them. Kanade is okay but pales in comparison to Riho. Original rec from Southlight :D

Ignoring that your list is hella short, what are you looking for in the VN? Just story? Or you do like (or even mind at all) if it has other things in it than just reading and possibly basic decisionmaking?
Without knowing of those I'll just say Kara no Shoujo, without having a walkthrough. One of the best VN experiences I've had and one of the most frustrating ones too, but definitively worth it in the end. If you're like most of tladt and qq at gore it might be a bit uncomfortable though.
Edit: KH's suggestion is solid. Ignore the other 2 routes in Deardrops and it's actually quite a pleasant experience.

I enjoyed Fate/Stay Night and Tsukihime, and they're both highly rated by others too. So is Steins;Gate, but I only watched the anime for that instead of reading the VN. I'm going through MLA right now, but Muv-Luv was borderline awful... Extra was awful; Unlimited redeemed it slightly. I'm way too old for high school dating games I guess.

Thanks for the replies, ill check out the Riho route in deardrops and Kara no Shoujo. I haven't really enjoyed a good mystery since Higurashi ( ̄へ ̄)
@Elem I dont really care what the VN contains as long it was enjoyable. A good enjoyment to time spent ratio Pretty lax about those sorts of things, not too picky.
I'll also be looking into Fate/Stay Night sometime as I haven't seen the anime and heard that the VN was immensely better (─‿‿─) Should probably read Tomoyo After at some point too
Dude...G Senjou no Maou was probably the best VN I ever read. Heavily reccomended if you enjoy politics, yakuza, corporations, and anti-corporate terrorist stories.
