I thought it was obvious, but I guess some people need it. Writer specifically said: "the anime will start with an introduction to BETA and Japan's current state before the real story begins." Don't know how anyone (who has only seen anime) can judge the story when we haven't been told anything yet. Also, any complaints about excess fan service can be attributed to our favorite director.
"Because I know this promise that won’t disappear will turn even a cause of tears into strength. You taught me that if I can believe, there is nothing that cannot come true." - Nana Mizuki (Yakusoku)

Fighting nasty aliens in giant robots is cool, maybe cool enough to carry a show but still... Girl-only cast, giggling and playing around in schoolgirl outfits/skintight suits, teasing eachother... Even something like Gundam 00 (which has a quite similar premise to me, again I am an anime nub) at least takes its characters deeply serious and delves into them. Being alittle harsh here, but I guess since they don't have tits they can have personalities...

EDIT: "Interesting dialogue" WTF - Let me try and explain my thoughts:

Fate/Zero episode 11, interesting dialogue into amazing action.

ML:TE (or Code Geass), pretty people saying nonsense, they better make up for this with the robots.

Like has been said, the first 2 episodes were "prologue/introduce you to the setting" episodes. Yui isn't even the main character of Total Eclispe, if you can believe that. Episode 3 will probably start the actual story for TE, and it includes male characters/the real cast of the show.

Also, I dunno why you are so obsessed on a smaller part of episode 1 when talking about the first two episodes. The first half of episode 1 started with what seems like generic highschool stuff (probably trying to simulate some of the feel you get out of ML Extra). And then it starts getting more serious, more grim as the episode progresses, until you have girls breaking down and crying at dead-loved ones, and the enemy right on the horizon. Then you get episode 2, where it pounds the reality of the world into your head as bloodily as possible. I think the first two episodes took itself really seriously. Didn't seem like light-hearted fun to me.

Ok maybe you guys can help me, I love To aru Kagaku no Railgun but cant seem to get into To aru Majutsu no Index. I mean I know it is popular but I just cant seem to like it. Is it just cause I like Misaka better as a protagonist then Tōma and Index or am I missing something. I liked the arc of index that dealt with Misaka and then clones xp. Index gets a lot of praise so I just have to think i am missing something.

Having what was my top favorite OP theme for quite a long time probably didn't hurt either

Index felt really disjointed and had me confused as to what was going on half the time. Not having read the LN probably didn't help. Index II was more of the same, only slightly redeemed by having a little more Kuroko action.

I saw people writing "lol it's another Infinite Stratos" when they had watched the first episode. Well, they were wrong, lol.

Dude your comparing the first two episodes to something halfway in a series lol. Second. The girly shit happend for like 7 mins. Im pretty sure you wont be seeing much of that again since you know... they are dead. Third again this was to show the setting more then a dialogue. Im not saying MuvLuv TE will be good or anything. I dont have much expectations at all for it honestly. Im just saying your judgement from just "two" episodes is unfair and silly

I understand what you're saying, but please, if you won't accept episode 11, just use episode 1 of Fate/Zero instead, and forget about the action part...

I thought the first episode of Fate/zero was great! But then your not making a fair comparison here. Muv/luv TE was trying to get you in with the Action/horror of the setting. Fate zero spent 3! episodes just telling you about the holy grail war and the people who would fight in it. There are alot of people I know that thought the beginning of Fate/zero was boring as fuck. It basically spent 1:30 mins explaining shit with no action. If most people would base their entire opinion on the first episode of a series then Fate/zero wouldn't look awesome either. From what people are saying Muv luv TE will mostly be dialoge heavy with little beta now but idk.

If you didnt like it then you didnt like it and i cant tell you different. Again Im just stating why I think your reasons are alittle weird.

Well, I doubt TE will be dialogue heavy. I've been under the impression that TE is gonna be very Top Gun-like, except with alot nationalists from different countries interacting. I don't think there are any more battles with the BETA until the end.

Naww dude. Takeru may have been a horrible dense Harem MC at the start, but that dude is develops like crazy through the course of the trilogy. Just compare him how he is when Extra starts to how he is towards the end of Alternative. If whats-his-name in IS went through the same PTSD and shit, he might emerge as a good character.

Eh that was something I read on /M I really dont know much about TE at all.

Also for the record I thought 1st episode of Fate.zero was better than the 1st 2nd of TE. But again it would be unfair to compare the two right now

I didn't realize that I was being unfair with the comparison, but I like what I'm hearing.

I tried not to focus too much on anything, I just used the most obvious examples to clarify my issues.

True. Sorry, I just had to express my hate for the IS mc. And yeah, anyone would develop if one were to go through the same shit Takeru did.

Takeru goes through one of the most intense developments Ive seen from any character. You'll definitely be hard pressed to find such a smooth and deep charater development in any anime. You could only could compare it to other novels since anime don'tt really use internal dialogue that makes watching his character development so effective. But even comparably to other novels I read Takeru really developeds

Yeah, I meant the early Takeru... well, if you want a character to develop a lot, why not start at the bottom? Okay, a bit of exageration there.

Hm, I wonder what to play once I'm done with Fate/Stay Night, any other VN:s that are "similar" to MLA and F/SN? As in "shit gets serious and the story is good" (god what a bad description).

Actually it was pretty obvious that they would get wiped out (I didn't expect Yui to survive, didn't read the VNs). The OP of episode 2 only showed screens from episode 1 .They were trying to prevent people from guessing what's gonna happen, but it was pretty obvious..

Was mostly talkin to myself ^^.

As for VNs. I heard Ever 17 was really good but havent read it.

P.S If anyone reccomends youG-senjou no Maou dont fucking believe them

Apparently that was Yuuhi, according to the director, and not Ikaruga.

This makes me happy - was actually just wondering about that this morning when I finally made the connection in my head between + Show Spoiler +
seeing the Takemikazuchi in TE and the part from MLA where Yuuhi mentioned having piloted it back during the initial fighting. Also happy I can finally discuss TE - looks like most of the stuff I wanted to say has already been mentioned, so just adding: I felt they really did a great job duplicating the emotions associated with the naval support a la the Sadogashima retreat in MLA, given how they've only had 2 episodes to work with. Too bad we didn't get to see Heavy Laser class or Fort class in combat (lol roadblock). Speaking of which, Takeru's 20+ Fort-kill streak is even more impressive now.

Sharin no Kuni: Himawari no Shoujo is pretty good
And there's always Steins;Gate

Ever17 and Clannad make up my top favorites (together with MLA and FSN) though I wouldn't call them similar to those

Not a huge Kuroko fan but honestly, teleport is just so awesome, lol.

Regarding MLA:TE:+ Show Spoiler +
I wish I had a solid (as in linkeable) source on it being Yuuhi, I wrote that it was her somewhere else and I'm not a fan of not having solid, presenteable proof Q.Q.

Edit: I just wonder how much having watched the anime will have ruined Clannad/Steins Gate for me... not as much as the first Fate/Stay Night route, I hope. Oh well, heaven's feel time :o
