Running a normal Mafia game takes experience and skill. You have to strike a good balance in the number of roles, the number and quality of clues, the length of the Day, and the power of the DTs, medics, etc.

However, I'd like to try to see if the newbie game format at mafiascum.net can work here at TL. The format doesn't require much moderation... just someone active who can count up the votes. You see, in this mafia game, there are no clues. Figuring out who to lynch is a matter of reading their posts. During the day, a simple majority vote of the town (including mafia) has to be reached to lynch someone. The days have a time limit of 1 week or so in order to figure out who to lynch, so this game will be slower paced than the others here at TL. There are 9 players in this game's format.

I think this is the way to make people get better at this game, it's how I learned super duper fast. Small games with like 11, maybe 12 people and low amount of clues with medics,dts, and maybe a vigi is great. Only thing is you can't always use 1 KP rules since they tend to suck if there aren't enough mafia v_v

Having these kinds of games going on all the time would be good. A lot of players just need practice and it'd encourage activity in the mafia forum.

Only problem with the setup is the time length. Not only does having such a long day period favor the town immensely (48 hour days seems to be a good balance generally in our games), it will also kill the game activitywise. Things might be slightly different with such a small game but I doubt there will be any major changes on such matters. When it drags on too long people simply will lose interest.

naw it shouldn't be 48 hour days, that's just ridiculously bad for activity. If possible you'd want daily games (we call them Speed Games or Trial Games) that only take a couple of hours. Voting time is like 10-15 minutes and people have plenty of time to discuss enough information. The only problem is being that this is an international website you won't always have enough people playing at once until the forum gets more popular.

That's what your speedgames idea was right? That's definitely a good idea, if the requisite people can be obtained.

The nice things about these kinds of games is that they can be run at any point and can co-exist with the larger games, so people who die early can have something to do. I think it'd be much easier if we could mass pm everyone who has access to the mafia forum and see who's willing. Either that or just set a weekly time where people can set a few hours aside ahead of time.

BTW what I meant by 48 hours was that anything longer will kill activity or favor the town too much.

Days are as long as they have to be until town decides on a lynch by majority vote. Any inactives are replaced by an outside player.

If you make it a set date, preferably sometime in the weekend and the games are fast enough I'm sure there would be enough people willing to play. Couldn't IRC be used for this, might make it easier, cause otherwise there would be 5-6 posts going up at the same time.

Irc messses people up. When we're having mafia discussions in the irc its hard to keep who is saying what straight and in order. And who's responding to what also. With 10-12 players I was thinking 10-15 minute days and 5 minute nights would be plenty. This way the game should only last an hour or so and shouldn't get people too bored.

I think this would be benefitted by a slightly longer day then we usually use, but not as long as MafiaScum. I'm in a newbie game for MafiaScum right now, and it's dragging on FOREVER. If we do 48 hours in this format, it would be too rushed. Mafia would win every game by forcing mislynches off of bad behavior analysis and false tells. Honestly, if you set it up where you have 4-5 real life days per in-game day and 48 hour nights, this format would be good for a small game to burn some time. The quickest mafia can win in this is 3 days, but the longest is theoretically 5-6 (maybe 7-8 with a proper doc prot) I think (no lynches and proper hits every night).

The other thing to take into account is the mod has to pay attention because once a lynch is picked (i.e, majority reached), day is supposed to stop. And they don't have twilight posting like we do.

The setup is fun, but its very different from what we're used to.
