"The 4 person punch that defeated a formidable opponent, CJ"
"The 4 person punch that defeated a formidable opponent, CJ"
On the 1st of August at the Loox Hero Center, Hwaseung OZ defeated CJ Entus on Day 1 of the semifinals of the 08-09 Shinhan Proleague.
Their win was accomplished through great performances from the aces from the team’s respective races – Jaedong-HiyA-BackHo as well as Oz’s new player PerfectMan’s valuable win as well.
The following is the interview with Hwaseung’s players.
- Your feelings on winning on the first day?
▲ Jaedong – I personally felt that today’s match was very important so I poured all my energy into preparing for it, and because things worked out the way we planned, I’m very happy. Other teammates really helped a lot so we were able to win by such a large margin – I hope we can continue to ride this momentum tomorrow as well.
▲ HiyA – Our lineup for the first day was a bit risky so I’m very happy we won. Because I’m starting off the leading set tomorrow, I feel I must win tomorrow as well if I truly want to be satisfied.
▲ PerfectMan – I didn’t know I would get an opportunity to play like this, but because I was able to earn this chance as well as win, I’m extremely happy.
▲ BackHo – I was pleased to be able to close the match, and it was because PerfectMan won his game that I was able to play easily with no pressure.
- (To Jaedong) As expected, you showed a strong game against zerg today.
▲ Jaedong – Watching Lomo lose, I mentally prepared myself knowing things would get difficult if I lost as well. I knew if I also lost that the momentum would swing in CJ’s favor so in the waiting room I just told myself that I would be able to do well if I just played as I practiced. As long as my opponent doesn’t have a completely advantageous build, even if my build is at a slight disadvantage, I am confident I can win. If I just play with confidence and micro to my usual ability, winning is not an issue.
- In your debut match, you won using a strategic play.
▲ PerfectMan – Up until Wednesday, I initially practiced standard builds, but occasionally I used strategic plays against players that I practiced with. But then the strategy I used was working well, so I decided to use it because of my desire to win. I was going to eat OoHwangChungShimHwan (t/n: I’m going to guess these are meds to help focus?) but my hyungs told me if I ate that for my first match, I would end up having to eat it for every following match so I didn’t. Also, the coaching staff told me that it’d be okay if I lost so I should just have fun, so I was able to play with no pressure.
- You showed off an impressive ceremony for your debut match.
▲ PerfectMan – I wanted to lower the other team’s morale, and I also wanted to get my name recognized more. I watched InkiGayo (t/n: music show program) and saw 2PM (t/n: Korean boy group) perform and thought they were so cool, so I decided to use their dance.
- (To Hiya) Though you’ve been slumping lately, on Colosseum II you are undefeated.
▲ HiyA – It’s been really hard for me recently… I think I prepared harder for this match than any other match I’ve played in the past. Though my win rate wasn’t so great, that only increased my desire to win even more. It’s a relief that my practicing was not in vain. Watching Movie, I realized he tends to play safely, so I also also wanted to play in a safe manner, playing him in a management game.
- (To Backho) Your strategy was great.
▲ BackHo – I had a different strategy planned out for whatever location I spawned at, and I had prepared to use this particular strategy if I started at the 9 o clock position. I had been saving this strategy to use for a long time, and the opportunity finally arrived today so I felt great from the start.
- Your mindset on Day 2?
▲ Jaedong – Because my opponent does not have that much experience playing on stage, I believe as long as I don’t make any mistakes I will be able to win. I think I will have to prepare well and help my other teammates out in the process.
▲ HiyA – I believe it is my fault we are currently ranked 2nd. I won’t be satisfied with today’s win – with a resolute heart, I will also win tomorrow and make sure we definitely make it to the finals.
▲ BackHo – It was extremely disappointing to fall to second place towards the end of the regular season. I definitely want to make it to the finals so we can accomplish our goal of winning Proleague.
▲ PerfectMan – Though I’m not playing tomorrow, I will help the sunbaes playing tomorrow so that our team will definitely make it to the finals to beat SK Telecom and win.
