Hangame changed the links and also the registration. Due to a massiv amount of foreign players (nonkoreans) you now have to verify your registration via telephone to create an account, which is only possible if you are a korean or have some friends over there.
Right now there are 3 ways to get the client: a) http://c9.hangame.com/pds/download.nhn, download top two files (marked with 1 and 2 at the end), you dont need the third file since this is for a test server b) download via rapidshare. you can get the links here c) download via bit torrent. Cant provide a link right now but I'm almost sure I saw one the other day
for everyone who is still interested in this game: I suggest you to visit http://www.continentoftheninth.info/forum/. They have a lot of guides and background informations.
This game is still awesome but you will NOT be able to play it if you are not korean :/
UPDATE (09.09.09) (Scroll down): a) Multi-Path-Job-System b) English-Patch c) DUNGEON INVADE PK'ING (New sort of PvP)
I just played the pre-beta version (stress test) of Continent of the Ninth and decided to make a post since there are no threads about it and this game definitely deserves some attention.
I'll first start with some infos about the game:
- "new generation mmorpg": basicly you don't have to target (click) things like in WoW or other mmorpgs. You swing with your sword or cast a spell and everything in range / line of sight gets a hit. Think of it as a sort of Diablo hack 'n' slay in 3D.
- movement matters: Sick of all games where you stand in front of your opponent / mob and just press 1-4 to activate your skills? In C9 you have to move! Movement is part of your combos and plays a big role in avoiding your enemy's hits. Staying in one place automatically will lead to TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE DAMAGE. - Amazing bosses / smart AI / great pve: can't describe how I missed this in WoW and all other mmorpgs I played so far. Bosses are huge (see link below) and fking amazing ... they swing giant axes and maces that smash you to the ground or blow you 20 meters away. You have to avoid being hit or get burned by huge fireballs. Also MoB AI is great. They can hear you, have special attacks, try to surround you and rape you Jaedong style.
- graphics: Most of the time I don't even care about graphics because gameplay is what matters but oh boy, this game looks amazing. Dunno exactly what engine they use but it's great. - new combat system: you don't have to press 1232212345 instead you have a set of skills which are activated after pressing buttons in the right order. For example as warrior you can press Mouse 1+2 and forward to do a whirlwind like skill after you get hit by a mob. Shift + A makes you dodge jump to the side and strikes your foes with a sword.
- No Tanks / Healers / DDs blah. Classes are build that everybody can survive on his own (if you move that is). You don't have to build stupid class-setups to do a dungeon. Just pick 5 friends and start the slaughter.
Well, there are like 9000 more arguments to test C9 but see yourself.
3rd official promotion video:
COMBO System
I have also noticed some cons (which are probably gonna be fixed soon FIXED) - lack of customization (pretty much everyone looks the same) - right now only 3 playable classes (Shaman, Warrior and Ranger), but as you can see on the videos much more classes will be available soon. - pvp got implented last patch but lacks of diversity (there is only arena-mode) but hangame promised more content soon - i have a feeling that this game MAY be a little bit grindy. I have no idea why but koreans seem to love grinding mobs and bosses the whole day. I played only to lvl 10 (took me about 6 hours which isn't much) so I can't say a lot about it. - servers are not stable and you get a disconnect now an than (but this is what a stress test is good for, right?) - you need a good pc to enjoy the game. your laptop from 1998 won't do it :/
Update (09.09.09): ALL OF THE MENTIOND CONS ARE FIXED BY NOW. SCROLL DOWN FOR MORE INFORMATION.
If I still have your attention than you probably are interested in taking part in the beta. And here starts the problem: C9 ist currently only available in korea :/ Beta starts on 15th. August '09 You have to go trough a troublesome Registration Guide but believe me, it's absolutely worth it.
I've read somewhere that there is a US / EU version coming but that takes always a year ... or two. But if you want to take a look or if you enjoy playing foreign games than this is absolutely for you.
If there are enough people jumping on the bandwagon I see a TL-Guild incoming or something, we'll see =)
EDIT#2: Found something regarding char customization:
Seems like there is a character customzation feature, just that the devs didn't implement it to let the players testing the game itself instead of spending hours in creating a char...at least that's the reason they gave when they were asked about that matter during close beta.
EDIT#3: System Reqs
Minimum: CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2400+ or Intel single-core 2.4GHz RAM: 512 MB Grpahic Card: ATI Radeon 9800 or Geforce 6600 series Directx: Direct X 9,0C 4 GB of free space recommended: CPU: AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+ or Intel dual-core 3.0GHz RAM: 1 GB Grpahic Card: ATI Radeon HD 1900, Geforce 8000 series Directx: Direct X 9,0C 6 GB of free space
UPDATE: (09.09.09)
I just want to provide you with some updates regarding c9 for the people who are still interested. I'm sure you will like what I'm going to tell you =)
a) There is now a Multi-Path-Job-System (known from other RPGs):
Fighter
Hunter
Shaman
So your class gets an update at lvl 10 and than you can choose between 3 jobs at lvl 25.
b) Like I mentioned in my first post there are some guys working on an english patch for the non-korean audience. Have a look:
c) and now for the truely insane part which made me almost pee in my pants coz I absolutely love this: FUCKING DUNGEON INVADE PK'ING WAS ADDED. Similar to Demon's Souls (PS3).
You basicly join dungeonraids alone or with some friends and grief, PK and murder the people who try to clear the dungeon. This adds so much dynamic to the game, thats utterly insane. You never know if someone trys to approach your group and you get some intense non-arena 1vsX matches. Seriously, this is the heaven for any PK (like I am). Imagine you try to kill Duriel and some bastard (thats me!) joins the dungeon and tries to gank you. Man, I love this. Take a look here:
Assasin (+ Shaman Buddy) takes out a group of 3 or 4 people.
Thats it. Gonna post more later maybe.
EDIT: For entertainment 2 PvP Clips + new snow area
PvP Clip 1 - Blademaster vs Assasin (music sucks but this guy is pretty good)
PvP Clip 2 - Assasin vs Taoist (watch out for the rape in the last round)
Snow area (official promotion video)

yah ... just a second

I run it on an Intel Pentium 4 2,6 Ghz 1 GB Ram RadeonX 1950 Pro
graphic settings everything on low ... it isn't exactly good looking but it works (I'll get a new system soon)
I think if WoW works for you than this might also work on very low settings

These 4 of were in Age of Conan... and that game was terrible. Not for those reasons though.

From reading only the OP this game sounds terrible. Grinding isn't even remotely possible when it takes a modicum of skill to accomplish. It would probably be fun low level, but they would have to either make levelling nearly entirely quest based or make the attacks so powerful that it would completely remove the point of pve =\.

AoC is terrible coz the game is slow, boring and unimaginative. The "new" combat system just sucks horrible. It is more tedious than fun, and adds nothing to the game.
C9 is fast paced, full of action and good looking. Combine this with some nice classes that ar not the same (just with different names) and a kickass combat system and you get C9

Well, think of it as Diablo in 3D. You clear a zone, kill a boss and move on to the next zone. Honestly, I wrote IT MIGHT be grindy (this prediction is based on all other korean games I played so far). Based on what I've seen in the stress test (lvl 10) it isn't as stupid as on other games, maybe they learned their lessons. What you do is to get some quests, join a dungeon (alone or with a group) and smash the shit out of the mobs / bosses. I have not felt the necessitation to do a dungeon over and over again since you get enough exp to move on to the next dungeon or to another difficulty of the same dungeon. I have not seen any end game though, so I can't say much about it.
Well, best thing to do is to watch some of the videos and make a choice. If you think you may like it than gogogo, I don't think you will regret it. Im sure there are many people who enjoy WoW-Like mmorpgs more but if you're looking for some competetiv action hack 'n' slay this is for you =)
Combos worked always perfectly for me. You can "pre-press" buttons (press a button of a combo in the animation-time of the previous combo). You rarely seem to hit mobs a few ms later but it really doesn't effect PvE gameplay at all. Plus it was a stress test which means that they try to test everything to guarantee a good beta start, so i guess you won't recognize lag that much as soon as the beta is running.
I kinda missed out to test PvP (Stress test was only 3 days long and you were allowed to play 5~ hours a day) so I can't give you any informations about it ... but since PvP is what is most affected by lag we have to wait for a week to say more about it

I am always up for a new good MMO to burn some time with
gimme gimme gimme!
Let them say we lived in the time of Boxer, Emperor of Terran. Let them say we lived in the time of Nal_rA, Dreamer of Protoss. Let them say we lived in the time of Savior, Master of the Zerg.

Hey man, I play C9 and I live in the USA. I have a serious concern though. I get disconnected about every 5-15 min... Is that normal? It's pissing me off. Sometimes i get d/c as soon as I log on.

i was just going to quote DW,
but if its all hack and slash it's just boring. mmo usually lead to grinding and char roles, etc. What is a boss strat going to be like? strife and micro?
added: the boss part is more like Monster Hunter. The boss aims headlessly and you just go backstab it.
