With this thread I would like to premiere my UMS project, The Star Strikers, to Team Liquid. This map is a combination of skill-based, micro-intensive, and team-oriented gameplay.
At the core of the gameplay there are two basic skills, Kick and Push, and two special abilities unique to each selectable unit. The mastery of these abilities is essential to the game. They provide a mix of simple, to easy-to-learn gameplay combined with skills like positional awareness, behavioral prediction, and precise timing.
The Star Strikers also includes an advanced AI that has hard-coded reaction time and thoughtful decision-making; it is designed to play the game exactly the way a human player does. This feature ensures that you’ll always have someone to play with. The AI will even replace players who happen to leave the game - which means that there is never any interruption or loss of gameplay due to leavers.
There are 21 selectable units from all three races, each with its own unique abilities that allow for a wide range of play-styles and skills to master. This creates a lot of replay-ability and entertainment, since no two games ever turn out the same. In addition, the gameplay allows for complex strategies where players combine the strengths and weaknesses of different team-members.
The Star Strikers has been in continuous development for over a year. In this time, it has caught the attention of many professional ladder players and teams including: Team Revoki, megumixbear, Mr. Bitters, Destiny, Team FXO, CatZ, and countless other diamond and master players.
If this sounds like the game for you, visit the website or join channel "Strikers" on Starcraft 2 to participate in a game.
Which version is it now? I played 6.0 and the one before: it's great! So fun to play 4v4 with friends in TS. My favourite is the SCV, I love those emergency walls
It's a great game with a lot more to it then you may expect from most custom games. A lot of variation to the team, and it has a great community of dedicated players! The metagame is rapidly changing (In fact, I don't even see Ultralisk hardly anymore) and there are still a lot of play styles to be seen.
graNite, it is now onto version 6.10 I believe. There have been a lot of good changes since then, (Queens and Infestors among others are much more balanced).
If anyone one new wants to get into this game just join the channel strikers and play as many games as possible. Ignore anyone that gives you shit for being bad and just play. We need more players for this game.
Too many new players worry about using the abilities the right way and never get the basic skill set of pushing and positioning. Pick something easy like the zergling or reaper and work on pushing and postioning. Besides that just play. Youll find yourself being a half way decent player if just dont screw up the more complex stuff will come.
And now the drone has a great and I emphasize great seconday abillity and can still be used in way that forces the other team to change the way they play around the goal.
This map is a must play. It truly is one of the most interesting use map settings games I have played in a while. It involves micro, reaction time, accuracy, and more -- and it never gets old! At least give this a try guys
Oh yeah, I've been developing this map continuously for the past year, and I just keep working on it. Partly because I don't want to let down the community I've built up.
For the past month, I have quit the ladder for this game and it is all I play now. The community is quite small but it very active and you can usually find 15-20+ people everyday in the channel "strikers" to play with. People should definitely try this game out.
