But I am interested in a basic, no bells-and-whistles keyboard with black or brown switches, can you direct me to one? or are they around that price range anyway?

Every Cherry MX switch has the same contacts. The Steelseries keyboards are not special in that regard. No keyboard manufacturer builds the switches themselves, they all buy switches from Cherry. The contacts are engineered to not break by oxidation, and mentioning "gold" is them writing stuff for marketing.

Cheapest price I know for a decent keyboard, ignoring Steelseries and Razer cause people have complained about the build quality of those keyboards before.

Does anyone know when the Blackwidow Stealth is gonna be released in the UK Shops? Amazon doesn't have it and neither does ebay, I want a brown switch mech keyboard and it seems to be the cheapest I can get atm.

According to the razer site, the stealth is exclusively to the razer store, meaning their not going to be redistributing the keyboards and you'll have to buy through razer.

Does such a keyboard exist, and am I still required to spend $100 for it? I got a used Cherry keyboard with black switches on geekhack.org for less than $50 shipped. They can be found on ebay too.

I'm pretty sure that Zowie's keyboards are standard Cherry Co. sized, which means that any set from wasdkeyboards should fit just fine, although sets are pricey at $60.

Hi. I read somewhere that they're coming out on October 14th or 16th, I forget where, but I swear that I saw it somewhere. That'll probably be in the USA first though, so you're looking at possibly December before it hits UK. This is assuming I didnt go crazy and saw it wrong... Sorry in advance if I'm mistaken. Actually screw it, I'm not going to say anything I can't verify myself. I don't know where I saw it from.

(Sorry if there's another version not like this, but this is the one I bought) Notice the \ and / keys next to each other. Absolutely silly to design a keyboard like this. qwerty keyboard layouts are standard for a reason. If you're designing a keyboard, what would posses you to change this? I'm not going to re-learn how to type on one specific keyboard because some numbskull engineer said "ITS A GAMING KEYBOARD LETS TAKE THIS TO THE MAX!" If you want to customize keyboard layouts - then don't mass produce them and sell them in big chains as gaming keyboards, like gamers in general want fucked up key layouts. Such a shame , the keyboard was solid and I enjoyed typing on it and it's actually the only brand that I've seen sold in stores locally. But they had to crunch the keys together and screw up the spacing, huh.. /rant

What I find more silly is when certain producers play around with placement of function keys, "F2" is to be above "3" as standard as it gets.

http://www.xenics.co.kr/main1/goods/detail.asp?lIdx=3&mIdx=0&goods_code=10023 If you're looking for a good korean/english mechanical keyboard, this is only about $80 US and it's just blissful. Others may like the blue better though.
