It's taking about 60 seconds to go from bios splash screen to my desktop.
It worked like a charm after a clean install, but after a few weeks, it started taking a long time to boot. The delay seems to happen on the windows 7 user screen "loading preferences" and then after that, I get a blank black screen for a good 15 seconds before the desktop shows up.

pretty sure ram and power supply wouldn't effect it, so I just won't bother posting it.

- Have you upgraded any drivers recently or installed any software that creates virtual devices? (dvd emulators, sandbox etc) - Lan configuration changed at all?
As for physical problems the only thing that comes to mind would be a defective yet readable after a couple thousand tries memory cell (if that's even possible in SDDs) It can happen with physical drives for sure but not sure on SDD

I haven't done anything. only things I've installed are MSFT Office, SC2, League of Legends and Xsplit.
I downloaded a program called HD Tune to see the read and write speeds of my SSD and I'm averaging around 150-200 on the read with spikes of 375. I don't know much about hard drives, but to me, that doesn't seem right....

I don't know if the numbers are good for your SSD, but it is definitively better than what a classic HDD can do.
|
Perhaps your SSD is not aligned properly. Look up SSD Alignment. Also, make sure your firmware is up to date.

He definitely has a problem. I run the exact same SSD 64gb M4 crucial and from a windows shutdown (aka being logged in working on my computer) to reboot and being logged back in takes ~20-25 seconds. A cold boot from turning the computer on to having windows up takes ~10-15 seconds (sometimes faster). FortunatelyI haven't had any issues with mine so I'm unwise to how to solve OP's problem, but I can at least confirm it should be booting much faster.

Oh man reading this thread makes me feel like im in the dark ages...I WISH my computer was fast enough to boot windows in 60 seconds. Time for an upgrade...

We have almost the same configuration :S. Those read speeds are for random or subsequent? (I cant see picture) make sure u install firmware 0.09 on your ssd, and more importantly, you have to make sure that you are on AHCI.
Also, is your desktop background a solid color? (vs picture and etc...)

Read speeds. Ahh So I guess i have to do the firmware upgrade. I just plug and played it out of the box. And yes, it's set to AHCI. Background picture is of SNSD >_>

Win.
Some Logitech products such as the G15 - when drivers are installed, can delay boot times by huge amounts of time. Try uninstalling peripheral drivers until your boot time goes under 30 seconds.

Just curious, what is your normal pc runtime schedule. (i.e do you leave it on all day?, turn off after every use, etc)

just did the firmware upgrade and it's still booting like a slug compared to right after the clean install. I also uninstalled my logitech webcam software
Any other suggestions?

It looks to me like a Trim issue. Your drive would have filled quickly, leading to a degredation of performance because of the way that SSDs handle deleting written blocks. Anandtech explains it extremely well in lots of articles. Here's the bit where they look at degredation of performance and improvements with Trim support: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4253/the-crucial-m4-micron-c400-ssd-review/2 You may, however find the whole article interesting.

try download ccleaner and turn down all the startup process . not a single one then reboot and say the results .

If you add a second user account, does it load normally to the user screen? Is it when you are loading the profile you have the problem is basically what I'm wondering. Also if you discount the startup time, how does it feel for other applications?

Sorry if this sounds a little dumb, but what do you mean by TRIM and filling up quickly? Does it just mean that my SSD is too full to perform at a decent rate? It's currently at 18.7 GB of free space...

It loads normally to the user screen, then after you type in the password, it takes ages to load to the desktop. Everything else seems to load fine, ie: League of Legends.

ok, so I've done some more research and it's saying that windows 7 has a problem with "hanging" on the welcome screen. I tried downloading the hotfix from windows but I get an error message telling me that the installation has failed.
Might just give up and just do a clean install on the ssd and just not update windows -.-'

Have you installed any more stuff on the ssd apart from your os? As far as i know if an ssd is close to full, it drops in performance a lot. Mine (on laptop MSI 780DX) takes 10 seconds from pressing power button till windows is ready (even had to install login by facial recognition since writing my password seemed too long).
The Hanging on welcome screen is common and t hapened to me too in a few circumstances.
