In either case, it's a messed up play and shouldn't happen.

When a Boston player does something super dirty they usually have no problem settling it right then and there... thing is everyone else is too scared to rumble with the biggest and baddest team out there and the rule kind of discourage player retribution. It is a shame because it lets weasels like Kesler, Burrows, Marchand, and Buttercup run the show. Its kind of a shame.

Both teams have done it. Don't put it all on us. In either case, it's a messed up play and shouldn't happen. The Hamhuis hit was higher, and it was made while Lucic was in possession of the puck. It was ugly, but he got called for clipping while injuring himself for the rest of the SCF. Salo didn't even have the puck, it was deliberate intent to injure. Not even comparable. Marchand should be out for 2-3 games.

Marchand was was not coming from east to west to to rub him out with a hip check above the knees into the boards. He was coming from north to south and took him out below the knees. This was a dirty hit by a dirty player and I suspect he will get 5 games or more. If you watch any of Hamhuis or Ballards hip checks that are from east to west and rubbing the player out on the board. The players they hip check have the ability to stop and dump the puck in, or get rubbed out along the boards. They do it the clean way. If they take them out below the knees they will get a penalty. Which has happened like once.

And if you don't think that Marchand hit was dirty then you've never played hockey. First off you don't go down that low EVER, that was a shot at the knees. Second, it was a race for the puck and you can clearly see that Salo was expecting to go shoulder to shoulder (like any respectable player does) and that was one reason he flipped so easily. What really made me mad though was that it was against Salo. He's a pretty clean and respectable player, really didn't deserve that. Plus he's made out of tissue paper and you know a hit like that is going to do some damage.

If you think Kesler and Burrows are the same type of Marchand, then your a nut. http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/console?catid=60&id=148388 He gets 5 games xD

It was well above the knee around hip to hip.

My big problem right now with suspensions is that you need to hurt a player before getting suspended. I've seen many a hit from behind where I've thought "Man, that guy is lucky he's not hurt." or "He was really unlucky the other guy was hurt he'll get suspended now." The NHL really needs to hammer out what's a penalty/suspension, there is so much confusion on players and fans parts it detracts from the game.

Marchand atleast has the balls to stand up for himself after he has done something stupid, whereas Burrows and Kesler turtle like little girls. Both guys have made plays just as if not more suspect than the one Marchand made on Salo, difference is now the league is cracking down and before the league didn't give a fuck. Both Kesler and Burrows are kings of throwing chinzy elbows and knees, and taking runs to hit guys after the play. I know you adore them, but they have a reputation with the rest of the league as weasels for a good reason. I'm not saying that you have to fight after every big hit you throw, but I am saying that you can't take the sneaky road all the time. Eventually you get a reputation, and your boys have a reputation whether you like it or not.

Then again if people only judged by HNiC you'd think the Canucks were the antichrist or something. Apparently Boston disagrees with the league but is shooting itself in the foot with both barrels by calling the league out full force this early. This will definitely end well yes?
