Obviously these videos are more or less useless if they cause me unplayable lag in the making, so I'd really appreciate any tech wisdom you might have to offer me. I did a forum search for related issues but none seemed to suit the peculiar issue I've been having.
Here are the specifics:
1. I never have FPS drops when I play SC2 while not recording with FRAPS. My computer easily plays this game on the settings I have it on (all low with medium shaders) at over 100 FPS unless there is some serious epic battle occurring, where it may drop to 60 or so.
2. The FPS drops I experience in FRAPS seem completely independent of any hardware-demanding occurrence in the game. This random lag spikes will happen in the opening 30 seconds and not recur until several minutes later, and generally seem to have no connection to how many units or effects are in play.
3. I have a Radeon HD 6850 video card, I have installed the most recent drivers from the manufacturer's website. I also have an Intel i5 2500k processor, an MSI P67A-G45 motherboard, 16 gigs of GSKILL ripjaws RAM, and a 1 TB Seagate barracuda hard drive. Power supply is Antec and 750 watts. Not sure if any of this is relevant, but I figured it was worth a mention.
That's about it as far as I can tell. Any ideas as to what might be causing these drops in framerate? Thanks in advance.
