So I did not see a post for this movie yet, but I saw an ad on someone's stream. It looked meh at first, but when I saw it is a Joss Whedon production, I became more interested and read more about it on the main site.
http://discoverthecabininthewoods.com/ Trailer
It looks really promising and came out today. Did anyone see it, or would anyone who has recommend it?
Plot:
+ Show Spoiler + 5 teens go out for a vacation to a remote cabin in the woods. the teens are somewhat stereotypes based on most horror movie stereo types, a jock, a nerd etc. however, it seems that their stereotypes feel somewhat forced in their interactions, and that there is something strange about their behavior.
eventually they start getting attacked and have to fight for their lives.
I wrote a basic outline of the plot spoiler free as far as i understand it above. I really liked Firefly, and haven't had much more exposure to Whedon productions, but I plan to see this one.
i think that the plot is supposed to be quite "original" and interesting, so just a big spoiler warning to people who might want to avoid finding out what the hype/surprise is (i wont be reading this thread)
Watch it. Recommended. I wont say much but me and my buddy nerd friend just watched it and we must say that we enjoyed ourselves.
Rated R for retarded!
But seriously, I've seen the preview for this sooo many times... Looks like your typical bad horror film. I'll keep checking the thread for someone to change my mind...
Edit: Wow, 93% on Rotten Tomatoes so far... + Show Spoiler +http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_cabin_in_the_woods/

I'm going to go see it this weekend maybe, and if not then definitely next weekend. I don't much like these types of movies but the trailer looked really intriguing, seems like a lot more than the typical "torture porn / human degradation" theme that has infested horror movies for the last 15 years.
Average in my opinion. Horror is weak, there is more comedy than horror.
Trailers make me want to vomit from how awful it looks but if these good reviews keep coming I'll probably end up seeing it.
I absolutely love horrormovies. Maybe something to check out.
I suppose the best advice I could give is to go in with no expectations. You guys should know that Whedon likes blending his genres so if you want straight up horror, you might leave disappointed. Its bit more multifaceted I guess.

I normally can't stand the disgusting gore in horror movies but this one has me intrigued :S
last horror movie I actually paid to go see in theaters was "Drag me to hell". granted, it was a comedy/horror, by the Raimi brothers, who made Army of Darkness, which is great. and Drag me to hell did not disappoint.
Some people in this thread said this is also more comedy than horror? I may have to go pay to watch this.
If someone's seen Drag me to Hell and The Cabin in the Woods, give some feedback? TIA

I just read the Wikipedia summary.
It looks like...bad. That's all I'll say. It starts as a horror movie then becomes ridiculous.
Watched the trailer, and thought it looked good. Will probably go to see it with a friend.
Saw it yesterday. Really enjoyed it. Check it.
I heard it was like Inception meets the original Scream where its a weird multilayered deconstruction of horror tropes.
just got back from seeing it. i definitely recommend it. i did not see the ending coming at all.
The trailer actually didn't thrill me at all. But some people around here actually saw it
Can you without spoilering tell why anybody should see it? Brilliant plot? Great script? Great acting? Originallity? Throw me a bone here
Saw it yesterday. Quite different from your standard gore-horror type movie. Recommend it!
Really enjoyed it. Funny and satisfying.
movies like this dont give up the goods on the first date, so dont you dare judge this by the trailer. all you see is the tip of the iceberg
