So I have been quite busy with school and I also attended this LAN and I haven’t been working for about 2 weeks It wasn’t all that bad though the War Z is an amazing game haha. One of my dream games to make was very similar but then Day Z alpha was released and it kind of went down the drain, I’m not sure if I’ll pursue it later as this new genre might very well be overcrowded in a few years when I have the expertise required for games that large. However I still have ideas for randomly generating unique cities ^^ I just need to learn a lot more about programming before I can try.
Before I had to study a ton I implemented some stuff though. The movement system is upgraded so that forward, up and so on, is based on the character’s rotation instead of the world. This makes it a lot more intuitive to move around and I feel like it was a good choice overall. However there are still some problems with it but I’ll fix that some other time lol. I also made the pillar catplanetcatplanet suggested but sadly I couldn’t get it working as intended. I’d probably have to recode a lot of stuff to have the players be able to change the position of their opponent.
I also have a new “machine gun” spell, firing icicles. At level one it simply fires in a straight line, level 2 fires with rotation like a chain gun so it looks like a DNA string and level 3 does the same but with three lines. I also created another summoning spell which I’m calling proxy cannon for now. Basically the player press once to place down the cannon and presses again to fire it. It simply uses the same targeting AI as the other summoned creatures so nothing crazy going on there.
The design for this is pretty interesting though in my opinion as it can create more angles to attack from, just like the meteors or the level 2 lightning spell (markers are thrown onto the ground and at the impact location, lightning strikes).
An idea I have for the level 3 fire discipline spell is creating an invisible area from the firing location or possibly around the player. In this area, at random points in it, “bombs” would materialize from nothing and explode after a set amount of time. Just enough to give the other player time to actually dodge them.
That’s it for now. My courses recently ended so there were some papers to write and new ones will begin this Monday I believe. Hopefully I’ll have time to continue updating but we’ll see
