SC2 Custom Maps Subforum Guidelines
Anything related to SC2 maps and mapmaking has a place in this subforum (unless it probably also belongs in another subforum).
Please remember that the same level of integrity that is expected throughout teamliquid.net is also expected here.
[1] The TL.net Ten Commandments are fully enforced in this subforum.
[2] When giving criticism, always remain respectful. Never criticize a map outright; instead, clearly identify areas of concern and/or offer insight or suggestions as to what could be changed to possibly improve it.
[3] When receiving criticism, please keep and open mind. Even when someone's perspective is flawed or incomplete, more often than not what they're saying holds merit on some level. It is your job, as your map's mapmaker, to put what they say into perspective (even if you do not entirely agree with them). If you are unwilling to accept constructive criticism then this is not the place to post your map.
[4] When expressing admiration for a map, please try to identify and explain what appeals to you in particular.
[5] When making a new thread, please try to include (in a concise way) as much relevant information as possible. Remember to put the correct tag in the title (if applicable).
Please remember to put the correct tag as the first thing in your thread's title. If your thread does not fall under any of this categories, do not put a tag on it.
[M] Melee Map The [M] tag is reserved for 'Melee" maps. When creating an [M] thread, please follow the outline described in this thread.
Map requirements for the [M] tag:- At least two starting positions.
- Standard Start (50 minerals, 6 workers, 1 CC, etc.)
- Standard End ("Destroy all enemy buildings.")
- Contains mineral fields and gas geysers.
- All race models, units, buildings, abilities, etc. unchanged.
- Contains no unnecessary triggers (no 'obs' maps, no custom ladders).
[A] Use Map Settings Not everyone is always satisfied with the RTS side of SC2. The Galaxy Editor is a powerful tool, and there are many maps designed to cater to these people. These maps are given the [A] tag.
Map requirements for the [A] tag:- All maps that do not qualify for the [M] tag.
[H] Help Nobody knows everything, and not all information is easily available. When there is something you need help figuring out and are genuinely having a hard time finding on your own - AND you can't find the answer in the Simple Questions/Simple Answers thread - you may open an [H] thread. Please describe as well as you can what you need.
OP requirements for the [H] tag:
[D] Discussion Sometimes there are topics that deserve a proper debate or opinions that should be challenged. Threads dedicated to these topics are given the [D] tag. These threads are generally for the purpose of better understanding the more ambiguous inner-workings of the game. Try to remain respectful in these threads, especially when you do not share the perspective of another poster. These threads (generally) make you think - do not post in them until you do.
OP requirements for the [D] tag:- Talks in-depth about a subject, offering insight in hopes of insight in return.
[G] Guide Threads that are meant to teach people how to optimally do something are given the [G] tag. Properly making this kind of thread is a great way to contribute, but you should really know what you're talking about before you make one.
OP requirements for the [G] tag:- Contains an explanation on how to perform a task or process.
[I] Information (Reference) Threads that make a set of useful information more readily available are given the [I] tag. This is another great way to contribute, but you should make sure the information is relevant.
OP requirements for the [I] tag:- Clearly and intuitively displays a set of complete information.
[R] Request Is there an old SC1/BW map that you miss? Or maybe there is something completely new you imagined but are incapable or too busy to make yourself? You may make a thread asking for someone else to make this map for you. Please try to describe the map to the best of your ability.
OP requirements for the [R] tag:- Asks for someone else to make a certain kind of map while describing the target map as thoroughly as necessary.
[P] Portfolio (Player Map Collection Thread) When you've been mapmaking for a while, you will eventually start to amass a lot of projects. You may want to make a thread to compile everything in one place. Feel free to include anything you've made related to mapmaking, like [D], [G], or [Reference] threads.
OP requirements for the [P] tag:- Contains links, short explanations, and possibly pictures to multiple projects made (at least in part) by you (either finished or in progress).

Thank you for your cooperation.

Nice to see the recent map activity due to the TL contest has expanded this forum. It felt like this entire sub-forum was reserved for MotM, haha.

What tag would you recommend for a Metalopolis rebalance and reskin? :3

Err I think it's time to remove the [MOD] tag right? xD
Also, should we change the [UMS] tag to [A] for Arcade? Aside from no longer using an outdated term, I guess the best reason is a shorter tag so more of the map name shows on the side bar.
Poll: Change [UMS] to [A]?Yes (21) 84% No (2) 8% Don't care. (2) 8% 25 total votes Your vote: Change [UMS] to [A]? (Vote): Yes (Vote): No (Vote): Don't care.
|
So thats 100% of the votes (4) in favor of changing [UMS] to [A]. Anyone opposed to it before it happens? lol
|
I think it's fine either way. [A] is probably better, but either way if you see something that isn't [M] you know it's custom/arcade.

Hi, what do you think would be a good way to "signal" a map that HAS the blizz melee tag, but clearly is untraditional and promotes unorthodox features ..?
|
[G] Guide Threads that are meant to teach people how to optimally do something are given the [G] tag. Properly making this kind of thread is a great way to contribute, but you should really know what you're talking about before you make one. OP requirements for the [G] tag: - Contains an explanation on how to perform a task or process.
Shouldn't this thread be tagged with [H] then?

So.. about the [A] .. uhhh ... how do I put this gently ..? Are you guys really using the sc2 custom/arcade for real ... or what?
A would mean it is in A on sc2 ... I made a "ums" and it appears in custom games ... So .. do I just bow to democracy or just do wtf i want?
I think [ums] trumps [A] every time .. it makes sense .. A (on sc2) is just the qway you "present" your map to the users .. got nothing to do with melee or other useful distinctions..
+ Show Spoiler +Nice to have these stickies .. you can get your name stuck on the forum forever ... rrr I hope I p o someone enough into answering so my handle vanishes quick... + Show Spoiler + mmmm should have added a pun against lurk her B.. he'd post as fast as my mom puts the rubik's cube back propper

When I was banling I edited many titles including many [UMS] -> [A] after we decided to switch without asking (also there was little moderation needed around here, so I offered map rename [thread title change] service free with a smile), but I don't think I ever planned on letting someone use [UMS] instead of [A] after we decided to switch without at least trying to dissuade. Here are my reasons:
1. So you can type in "[A]" in the TL searchbox and find all Arcade/UMS map threads. This is a great marketing boon; only someone who wanted to hide their map wouldn't follow suit.
2. Because "[A]" is shorter than "[UMS]" ... sidebar clutter.
3. "Use Map Settings" is an obsolete term. right? sryz :X
I sorta think UMS has a better ring to it too, but I think you might be surprised the % of people who play SC2 that have never played SC1/BW.

Revamp soon; suggestions appreciated. -Barrin Lol that's actually not even possible anymore; I can't edit that post. Nor do I have permission.

"I sorta think UMS has a better ring to it too" :^D u bet ya
"but I think you might be surprised the % of people who play SC2 that have never played SC1/BW." I wouldn't be surprised (since i think I've read most threads on this awe some subforum .. but you're right it should be typed over and over on this (and indeed many a) forum: to anyone who's never tried it : go play sc1.. u can probably get it on your iphone by now.. why .. coz your life will never be the same (and that will be a good thing .. trust us!!!)
"Nor do I have permission" .. hahahahahahahaha .. want to do a sit in to get permission .. i'm off for the week end .. but all for it when I return.
I do love a good sit in.

Could we seperate MOD's like OneGoal, Starbow and SC2BW from "Pimp my footman", "Auir Chef" and those types of Arcade games?
They main difference being MOD's that are reworking SC2 / BW and Arcade games that are trying to be completly new games. [A] for the "Auir Chef" ones and perhaps MOD for things like Starbow?
|
Sit in + Show Spoiler +For a change back to a proper way to describe maps ... and for lurk her B to have permission
|
"3] When receiving criticism, please keep and open mind." Is that a typo I see in the op?.. Someone needs to correct that ... permission to change that would be used wisely .. this will not stand ... WE protest !!! Typos, even when intentionally done to get permission back, must be corrected!!!

What tag [?] should be used for Extension Mods?
[A] does not fit because the new Extension Mod type does not appear on the arcade.
