So yeah. The original series occasionally had exposition heavy episodes like this but they still weren't this thick, and they were the result of a season-long build up so that you could finally piece together the small glimpses you'd seen along the way. This was just a deep dive into a really long conspiracy that's probably going to end up retconning the original series a bunch.

It's just non-stop ranting, with bad acting. I just watched the first episode and had the same impression. David seemed particularly unenthusiastic. Think it would have been better to just have different lead actors and make it a sort of new team/duo digging into unusual/weird cases.

The original x-files was built on suspicion and tension, not this in your face bullshit + Show Spoiler + Yeah, it was really odd that they started with actual aliens right away. I always thought one of the best parts about the X-Files was the inconsistent narrator. There was always the opener which showed a bit of what was going on, but not enough to say anything definitive about it, and then Mulder/Scully had to work through what was real and what wasn't. In this case, we just see the aliens right away. Sure, there's that government conspiracy stuff to work through. But we know off the bat that there was an alien and people have recreated alien technology. There's no mystery there.

I mean X Files originally had what 24 episodes to simmer and sometimes not before bringing the plot to a high-ish bubble near the end of the season. Going in with six episodes to build something you'll have to tee something up and at least for me personally, I'd rather it not start with, "+ Show Spoiler + well the last thing we saw was CSM get blown up in an Indian Pueblo, and here is what the aliens with the reset button on the back of their necks that kill people have been up to" Post season 5, retcon away. There is not much six episodes can do that S6 on can't top in ridiculousness (sometimes in a good way, sometimes not). I'm just happy for six more stories and ready to see what they cooked up and I liked what I saw in the first episode. The tone was right, there was some stammering with finding that Mulder/Scully vibe but it got there. I think the Alex Jones angle is strange but I got five more hours to make up my mind.

It felt like the first episode tried to cram as much as possible and while the second one was less packed there are still so many plot lines and directions that it seemed a bit rushed and disjointed.

ok finished both episodes, i have to say having conclusions after each episodes really make this not very x-file. And moulden and scully their voices sound very different from what in my memory....
