Problem: every time when I try to join a multiplayer game, or a co-op game, or even try to watch a replay, the game queues normally and then goes to a black screen with only the mouse visible. The game works fine (menus, start-up, searching, etc.) up to the point of an actually game starting. Audio plays in the background as normal.
Specs: i7-6700HQ 16GB RAM 128GB SSB + 1TB HDD Nvidia GTX 1060
Additional info: Game has been working just fine for about 6 months, then today after trying to watch a replay after a game this problem suddenly started. Googling has very little up-to-date information, mostly related to black screen on game start-up during the WoL era. Display is pretty current, updated to the newest nvidia drivers about two months ago.

Do you have the game running in Windowed, Fullscreen, or? Single or multiple monitors? Which Operating System?
I had an issue some months ago after a Windows 10 update that would cause something similar. It would freeze the game on my end and/or cause a black screen lasting up to 30 seconds. It was usually when I was alt-tabbed, but it would sometimes happen while in-game running in Windowed mode.
I never found a solution myself, eventually after a few random Windows 10 updates force restarting my PC on me it stopped happening in Windowed and Fullscreen, and happens less often while alt-tabbed. If nobody else has found something I would simply suggest double checking your OS updates, monitor drivers, and try changing SC to run in Windowed or Fullscreen (whichever you aren't using).

Ugh SC2 could be so temperamental sometimes...
Tried windowed/windowed fullscreen/fullscreen modes, updated to the newest GPU drivers, and reinstalled SC2 yet the problem persisted so I just gave up last night.
Solution: Wait a day or two and the very reproducible problem suddenly goes away on its own.

If you are running Windows 10 and have not set up desktop notifications for SCII, and if you are in fullscreen mode, then if you are not 'in' the game client when a match is found, you cannot ALT-TAB your way back. You will get the black screen of death.
Suggested Fix: Go to Windowed mode. Then you can switch between windows without any issues whatsoever.
Also: Make sure your desktop screen rate is the same as the game's screen rate.

It is also possible that you need to have VERTICAL SYNC on.

Hmm, interesting problem. Definitely try having Vertical Sync on an see what happens. On top of this, it could be a hardware issue, more specifically a RAM issue. There's a lot of different options for better Ram, something like this could work. However check out Newgg and/or Amazon for the best deals.
