Shes been in south america filming a movie.
Former mma fighter won the mens royal rumble tonight.
Ronda officaly signed her contract to work full time with WWE per ESPN. The model for MMA fighters to transision to wrestling is pretty solid for Japanese wrestlers but I'm not convinced with americans yet. Minoru suzuki is at the top of the game in his mid 40's and he was a monster in his prime. Nakamura was the winner of the WWE royal rumble and was an MMA fighter but that was during the inokism days when he was trying to make a hybrid MMA/pro wrestling product and forced wrestlers into fights.

Rousey says its a not a "smash and grab" cash grab. she is completely all-in full time. so i guess that ESPN interview is her UFC retirement speech.
with the women's RR being the main event of the show i knew Rousey would show up. they only have about 3 women in the whole company that are over. she is even using "Rowdy" Roddy Piper's t-shirt from the 80s https://streamable.com/21zsy
|
It is known that Roddy piper okayed her use of it when he was still alive and she was doing MMA.
She showed up but she wasn't actualy in the rumble. Thats a huge red flag for what she can do. Drew carry was in a royal rumble but they didn't trust Rousey to do it.
Shit I was thinking the jacket she was wearing didn't fit her. She actually got Roddy pipers famous leather jacket from his son before the event. Thats a Ric flair robe level of attire or the fur jacket DDP gave cody that DDP got from dusty.

Ronda full time in the WWE, how? Why? She has no personality, terrible fit.

in the ultra long term i think the WWE wants the American Ronda Rousey to go toe-to-toe with the best women from Japan. she has the athletic talent to eventually do this.
i think the WWE is looking ultra long term by introducing the Japanese women's wrestling style//choreography into their organization. I think they are going to start to demand that their "female talent" have the training and ability to pull off the super-acrobatic brutally-difficult moves of Japanese women's wrestlers. If they can pull it off .. it'll be really cool.
this is some of the best, most technically difficult wrestling i've ever seen.. its hard to find.. but if u can.. its a treat...its called "Slant Eyed Slaughter".
Whether the WWE will actually go through with this long term plan remains to be seen; its evident from RR2018 that is the direction they are going with the women's division. Stephanie may be the crappiest commentator in the world but she does have ambition and vision.. i'll give her that.

Come on, this is the MMA thread, not the soap opera for men thread
Who cares about RR, she was demolished in her last 2 fights, and has no intentions of coming back in the foreseeable future. As good as retired can be without saying you're retired.
Anyway, Stipe vs DC is interesting, though it almost always is a costly decision long term to have a champion vs champion fight. You're cannibalizing one division for the sake of the other, added to the fact that if DC wins, he will probably retire, unless there's a JBJ vs DC 3 around the corner. So it will really mess the divisions up and give them pretty low viewership for a year or so. Either way though, I think it'll be an exciting fight, and I actually think DC has a good chance against Stipe.
I'm pretty excited for this year though. I think all divisions are playing out quite nicely and we will have so many huge fights. 3 champion vs champion fights, Khabib vs Ferguson, maybe McGregor vs those two, hopefully Nate Diaz vs Eddie Alvarez... JJ vs Rose is a well deserved rematch and I'm happy with UFC's decision to do that. Blessed Era in featherweight is the most excitement I've had in featherweight history minus that small stint with McGregor (for me anyway). Middleweight is finally getting exciting again, I'd really enjoy seeing Whittaker vs Luke Rockhold, a very likely comeback of Cain vs Overeem/Francis would be sick. And championship vs championship fights cover the divisions that didn't come off as exciting. The only divisions that have little interest to me now are Welterweight, RdA vs Woodley is so boring to me, but I think Colby vs RDA would be awesome because of the Brazil stuff, and Thompson vs Till I hope... And maybe maybe GSP vs Woodley please.
Either way, lots of potential this year, I'd gladly take -500 odds with someone on TL that 2018 PPV's will do better than 2017 (if we exclude McGregor Mayweather).
|
I agree with most everything you said. I dont think GSP will be back this year. His coach said 1-2 years.
I think one thing that is hurting their ppv is the fox shows, some times the fights on those are better then many of the fights on the ppv. I think they need to use those to build stars and just be top heavy to get views. When i get a ppv i want to be interested in at least 4 of the 5 fights.
|
i think its going to be tough for the UFC to get a decent rights fee out of Fox//FS1 when their deal is over because the WWE will also be looking for a tv deal. UFC TV ratings are bad. Fox plans on playing one off of the other to keep the rights fees for both low.

Romero didn't make weight.. well i don't expect him to beat Rockhold anyways.
|
ffs put some metal plates in ur chin Luke

this post fight kiss and chat between Romero and Rockhold is just weird
even though Romero is hte "soldier of god" i'm going to pray tonight for whatever is left of Rockhold's brain after that KO.

Damn that knockout looked brutal, wonder what you do with the MW division now.

Here is the last 30 seconds of the Romero//Rockhold fight WARNING: hide your children and don't let your pets watch this ... its disturbing. https://streamable.com/2n977

Yet another trash mma ref, he stands 100 miles away so he can't get there in time to avoid the 2nd shot.
gj buddy

i predict Rockhold will now have a "glass jaw" after that beating. i think the research indicates 5000 small shots that eventually KO you does more permanent damage rather than 2 brutal smashes. Still, i think Luke leaves this fight less of a fighter

A lot of people thought he already had one, bisbing knocking you out is bad for a profighter, he hadnt ko'd anyone in a decade. This is going to take away what ever he had left!
