I checked a few of the map-making communities, but activity is still pretty low at the moment. Anyone on TL.net working on map-making (either SCBW or LotV)?
I'm finishing up some old projects while I'm here confined in early retirement, lol. I know some of the best BW players were map-makers. For instance, I worked with Yosh after his stint teaching BW at Berkeley and he edited quite a few maps for us. I think Midian also dabbled with map-making. Sort of sad all these guys seem to have disappeared even for BW:R.
Anyway, I'm trying to mute game music--which should be pretty straightforward if its available. Anyone know about a trigger for this?
If you're interested in map-making send me a message. I'm also available on SCIIMapster, I believe, from way back in the day.
Will do. It's looking like they didn't update the editor with coloured text, to my surprise. I'm actually working up some Map Settings stuff which I think will be kind of popular. It's a pre-cursor to a big SC2 release I had planned for several years ago. Unfortunately vocations got in the way of past times and we didn't get my SC2 stuff.
this is the jokster opening I have planned for the BW:R
Melee mapmaking you can go to broodwarmaps.net for some advice or just post here ( I think somebody started a melee mapmaking thread not too long ago on here ). Broodwarmaps has a huge database of user made maps with some of the more recent ones being good for modern play I would say, you can look there. Freakling, Crystaldrag, Jukado being some current map makers that have accounts on TL you can reach out for help. NegativeZero is a Starcraft 2 mapmaker but he dabbled in BW mapmaking as well, and I would say he is quite good (he will try to convince you otherwise). I heard he made some nice maps for sc2, some being used for pro play or something? I make melee maps since like 2007, I have a few on bwmn. Excalibur is a UMS mapmaker from the Staredit.net community which specialize in UMS map making. But Excalibur actually also makes melee maps (fun FFA and some nice 1v1s as well).

Thanks for the excellent post.
I plan to look into SCMDraft in a few hours. Quick query: does SCM handle colored text? Obviously we know colored text is a possibility but it seems unavailable even with SC:R's editor. Rather surprised "EUD" wasn't compressed into the editor re-release. You don't have to modify the game to modify the editor.
From time to time I agree Blizzard should add a few check boxes.

Yes colored text is in SCMDraft. Even the "weaker" editors can do colored text, like X-tra editor or w/e its called (at least from what I remember).
EUD was patched out of the game for security reasons. They have been supporting specific EUD maps to make them compatible for play but the map has to be individually selected by Blizzard and they'll make it playable. Or they take suggestions from players, I'm not sure how they do it.
The editor that comes with the game is pathetic, don't use it. Supposedly Blizzard is trying to implement custom ramps into the game soon(supposedly), so we'll see how that pans out. Will they update the editor to be able to do so? Will SCMDraft have this capability as well (that would be up to Suicidal Insanity I suppose).

I'll probably knock out a lot of this in a few hours. From what I read regarding hypertriggers and in particular EUD which we seem to like, we're using trigger workarounds for stuff that could be cleaned up by Blizzard. Adding shields to Terran and Zerg etc. seems like a simple fix. I am yet to use EUD but to get stuff done it might be better if Blizzard just made quick adjustments
