Hello,I'm a fairly new zerg player,and I hit diamond 3 recently
However,I have a huge mechanics problem : I do not do creep
Without exxageration,I end 98% of my games without making one single creep tumour,I wanted to spend my time in silver and gold league to learn how to creep, but during the season change,I got catapulted from silver 1 to platinium 3,and then climbed way too fast (imo) to diamond 3,however,my lack of creep is a real issue, and diamond is not really a good place to learn very basic bronze tier zerg mechanics, and not being able to do it cripples me very much against terran players
My issue is that getting so high pretty much cemented my hotkey usage and my mechanics, and even when playing alone or against AI,I just cannot seem to really spread creep effectively, trying to do it makes me break down to the point where I start missing injects, messing up my larva, mess up my command groups and overall play terribly bad.
I wonder if someone could give me any advice or trick or anything like that to help me get started, and if anyone ever was in the same situation (which may be unlikely as creep spread is something players tend to start working on as early as bronze league)
Making a creep queen works wonders, you need a good number of queens anyways in most situations. Assign a hotkey and implement the creep queen into your macro cycle.
More tips: - Use camera hotkeys - Use the rapid fire technique to spread creep faster
I always try to spread creep directly after the injects, because it just feels right that way. Practice the cycle in unranked mode.
Adding creep to my macro cycle helps wonders I do injects->spread tumours->make tumours every 30 seconds, still a bit wonky for now,but it's a considerable upgrade over what I did before, thanks all for your help
i put extra queens on hotkey group 5. 1 army, 2 second army, 3 muta/miscellaneous, 4 hatcheries, 5 queens
the queen hotkey is useful not only for creep but also for defense against drops. i usually spread tumors in each direction and then move my queens to the main for defense against drops. then if my opponent starts clearing creep i return queens to the front line to add more tumors. if i want queens in the main fight i simply shift+1 to add them to group 1, then if the fight is over and my queens are alive i alt+5 them to return them to group 5 and remove them from group 1.
honestly, making tumors is very easy. spreading them is pretty easy too. the more important thing is replacing tumors. it's very common for your creep queens to just sit in the middle of the map and get killed while your tumors are also killed, and then suddenly you have no creep even though you made 1000 tumors in early game. i would just throw the queens on a hotkey and work on keeping some attention on them so you can get more use out of them. in zvt creep is important and you can go up to 5-10 queens for midgame defense, so zvt is a good place to start
rapid fire i don't feel is necessary unless you're master+ and competing seriously. you can spread creep correctly without it. doing it faster isn't going to make your macro cleaner, it's just rushing
Yeah I tried using rapidfire, but as a creep noob it just makes me put my creep in less desired positions, maybe I'll do that once I get good, but for now I'll do without
Update : I won my first game against a diamond terran in a long time thanks to creep,at least it has helped a considerable amount Thanks to you all for helping me :D I still have some work to do on my creep, but the difference compared to before is staggering
