When dealing with lost data, you will never get back 100%, keep that in mind when choosing your software.

My computer crashed recently when the CPU fan broke (it was spinning, but vibrating the shit out of the computer, then it froze. I turned it off, then it started up on its own again, and it was turned off improperly), so that could be what caused the problem in the first place. Nortydog, I could definitely use some instruction on how to use this program.

The computer was vibrating like crazy and froze, then it was turned off (first time). It somehow started on its own (the button might have stuck), and then it was shut down improperly (the power button was hit, not shut down through windows). The second shut off could very well be where the problem happened. My dad also ran this one program that cleans stuff up, supposedly, and he denies that it ever deletes important shit, but I think it fucked up the computer the first time it was run, and then deleted these files on me this time. The first time it was used it deleted a bunch of frequently used shortcuts, and a few programs stopped working properly. It was used again after the computer was reloaded, and suddenly my files are gone. He won't listen, because he knows more about computers than me, so he couldn't possibly be wrong. (He really does know more about computers than me, I'm not being sarcastic). Being that I'm talking about this program, does anyone here know anything about this program? It's called "Advanced System Optimizer."

If they are totally ireplacable then have your dad handle it (not if any% of videos were porn however) or take it to a shop that knows what they are doing. It sounds like your hard drive is pretty fucked up. P.S. Website of your dads software http://www.systweak.com/asov2/ and review here Review from the review The Organizers section contains an appointment planner, sticky pad for typing desktop notes, and a media file organizer which searches your hard drives for audio, video, image and other media files and can be used to do a general listing of just about anything. There's a great little Info tool for adding comments and metadata to various kinds of media files which will accept that sort of thing (JPG, AVI, MOV, etc.). sounds like that is causing the media troubles. edit: Unraveling more like a mystery. From the same review. Cons: Some MOV files gave the Media Files Organizer (MFO) absolute fits—merely selecting the file in the list pane caused the MFO to exit without warning. It's a minor bug because it doesn't cause any system instability, but if you've got MOV files from a number of sources you will run into the problem.

I have no idea how the hell all of them got deleted, but I lost somewhere in the range of 500-600 video files, or about 80-90 gigs worth of stuff. Does anyone know of any program that could do this, preferably for free? Any help is majorly appreciated. Try Stellar Phoenix FAT & NTFS data recovery software. Although it is not free but it will help you in recovering your data. You can download the demo version from: http://www.stellarinfo.com/partition-recovery.htm Scan your hard drive, if you are able to see the data through demo, it mean you can save them by getting the full version. It has worked for me, hope it might be beneficial for you too. Best of Luck.
