As far as win 95 goes... well that's some old school sh*t :D
Nope, I used to use Vista on my laptop with no freezes. Only when I updated to Win7 did I start getting the problems.

so im considering upgrading to windows 7 ... pretty soon however my biggest concern is BW running. (iccup launcher more specifically). do you think i should wait? or are most of the problems resolved?

If you want to fix the colors, kill explorer.exe before you launch sc
haven't had any issues on b.net or iccup

I have Windows 7 64 bit, and I too experience the crashes. As far as I know, this only relates to the 64 bit version of win7.
Whenever I want to play, I reboot my computer, and basically start nothing else than just the launchers I use (BWHF Agent) and Starcraft itself. Then it works no problem. If I start to launch other applications, then it might crash unexpectedly (I didn't test which applications cause the problem, but it crashed even if I was running no music players).
Edit: browsers with flash plugins might be a problem too.

For those with Starcraft crashing on windows 7:
Right click the desktop, open Screen Resolution, and leave that open while you play.
I don't know why it works. My friend on windows 7 has to have it open or he'll crash.
If screen resolution is open he doesn't crash, if he forgets to open it he'll crash after a few minutes of play.
Not everyone has the crashing issues on 7, but this seems to fix it when you have that problem. This does not solve the negative colors glitch though.

can anyone reupload the affinity fix plugin for chaos?
|
For you who havent upgraded to VISTA yet, get with the program.

I really love win7, but I agree that this is killing me. I've tried affinity, compatibility mode options, and the batch file that kills explorer upon SC:BW launching, but I still get crashes and freezes. The only option I can think of is to dual boot win7 for 95% of my programs, and XP for SC.

bump, no one knows a solution to completely stop crashing? i just played a total douche who tried to hide buildings just then on iccup and my comp crashed while i was finding his buildings. unfortunately because i crashed, i don't have a replay to back up my complaint.

Running in Compatibility Mode worked for me. Just choose XP.
|
For me, windowed mode on Chaoslauncher and ICCUP launcher makes everything fine (Win7 64bit).
No special settings, just run CL and BW and ICCUP as admin.
|
Yea, I got discolouration in full-screen mode, but who plays fullscreen on anything over 20"? lol Windowed-mode makes everything fine. Win7 64bit here as well.
|
I guess this doesn't help with anyones problems but I'm running Win7 on 64bit (quad core) and bw / chaos luncher / iccup launcher all work fine.
I do get funky colors on the menu screen when running in full screen but once in a game that goes away.

Open notepad.
copy/paste:
cmd.exe /C start /affinity 1 D:\"SC"\"Launcher"\"Launcher.exe" ping 127.0.0.1 -n 2 taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe ping 127.0.0.1 -n 2 cd C:\SC\StarCraft\ rem cmd.exe /C start /affinity 1 D:\"SC"\"StarCraft.exe" rem Wait for the game to quit, press Enter to continue pause start explorer.exe exit
Replace those paths with what you have for said files, save as .bat file. Now when you wish to play start SC by clicking the file you created, it kills explorer until you stop playing. You can also create a shortcut of the file and make it look like SC so it looks prettier.
I tried everything else but only this works, now about 200 games without a crash. If even this doesn´t work then I have no idea what could be wrong. Maybe you guys have some weirdo component that just hates SC.

it was crashing for me but i solved it by doing this. making sure all my programs are closed (especially firefox) and when sc opens, i alt tab go to task manager and make sure that starcraft's affinity is set as one cpu.
