First if mods feel that it should not be on this session or in this forum I do apologize. I did search and didn't find anything like this (not even on google ... )
Well, I like watching the streams of tl, but those new ads on ustream are very bad since we need to see production builds etc, so I was wondering if anyone found a way to get rid of them in chrome. In Firefox I get adblock plus and with some tweaks and gg, but using same tweaks in chrome I can't, anyone also feel annoyed and found a solution for chrome + ustream ads ?
Thanks in advance

edit: whoops, chrome-related. doesn't adblock plus have some sort of addon for chrome?

I think someone posted a how-to about this in the EG invitational day 2 thread ; you should check there : >

Here you go :

1. Go to start > RUN
2. Type notepad c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
3. Add the lines: 127.0.0.1 adserver.adtechus.com 127.0.0.1 pagead2.googlesyndication.com
4. Save the file and close it. If you have your browser currently open you will have to close it and reload it for it to start blocking those 2 entries above.
By the way, I have no idea about how this is supposed to work, but some people on the thread seemed to be pretty satisfied with this solution, hence, although I didn't test it myself, I assume it indeed works.

Keep in mind that free services like uStream survives from advertising.
Yes, the large ad is kinda annoying, but that only showed up once or twice for me throughout watching the whole EG Masters last weekend.
If you take away the income from these websites, soon there will be less and less free streaming services out there.

This is a tech support question.

What teko said is true. If you could handle a minor annoyance to keep the service free, please do so.

I'm not sure if this should be allowed to be posted; someone else can step in and correct if they feel a need to (we'll talk about it).
Moved to tech support.

What that sayd commands do is they redirect a request for a specific site, in this case an advertising site (adserver.adtechus.com and pagead2.googlesyndication.com), to a specified IP. In this case 127.0.0.1 or localhost.

you have a good point... so good thing there are still lots of IE n00bs left in this world!
kinda on topic : Even using firefox with adblock, there is still inevitably the Ustream tag on the top right corner. Is this encoded in the video or is it an overlay? If it's an overlay, is there any way to disable it? Sometimes I really wish I could see the supply counts...

Thanks for the answers i will try it in firewall! About the ads, I know sites survives from it but I think they only make money if the person clicks on it, and since I dont want my p____ to get bigger or my belly to get smaller I will never click in it anyway XD

i recommend using this variant: http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
its a premade hosts file (see posts above) which basically does not only block the one google ads server, but any ad-related server.
the nice thing: you don't need any fancy addons for any browser or any other application, it just blocks all access your whole computer has to any ad and potentially malware hosting servers. you install this and all your ads are gone. Everywhere. best thing you can get ;P
