Hey I just thought I'd share this in case it helps anyone.
I'm about 5'8 or 5'9 In late 2009 I was about...12 stone 6 or so.
My BMI was overweight I did very little exercise but I didn't eat terribly bad.
I had tried to go to the gym several times for months dedicated, even did high intensity training for months... several times a week with weight training.
My overall look though didn't change at all, still large and overweight looking.
So every time I would stop going to gym.
-
So firstly I stopped drinking anything unhealthy(mainly diluting juice/fruit juice and I never drank alcohol anyway nor coke etc... regularly). They have huge calories and other harmful chemicals like even the synthetic sweeteners. I cut aspartame out of my diet completely and my appetite lowered a lot actually. Also diet coke and actually are proven to make you feel hungry and your body expects calories when it tastes the diet coke and gets none and therefore it causes you to seek calories elsewhere.
I drink only water/tea or the occasional hot chocolate or coffee. Coke perhaps when at restaurant.
That made my weight drop...maybe to about 11 stone 10 pounds or so. Also got a job though it wasnt' very physical so that kind of helped.
So thats the first thing that improved my weight loss.
Next was the biggest thing. I done my research and decided to become vegetarian. Taking maybe 1 pill per day to get my vitamin B12/iron and other things that lack. (Vitamin b12 is big one..i felt so weak before I realised I needed this) but felt absolutely fine after I started taking it.
When I say vegetarian I mean no fish, poultry, seafood, meat or anything else with flesh.
I did this at the end of Jan of this year.
I'm now 9 stone and probably the thinnest person among family and friends lol. Its really weird. Not super skinny as I have quite a muscular build and if I wanted to put weight on I could but yeah.
I went from being BMI overweight to being 1 mark away from BMI underweight.
I still eat pizza, chinese food at weekends and even snack from time to time. I do practically no exercise (though i did for 3 weeks go to the gym and seen results even in that time now that my eating was sorted out).
My weight continues to drop and im pretty much maintaining my figure with no effort.
I know in the long run its best to do exercise and I will when I get gym discounts from university but as of right now. I'm content.
It makes logical sense to me that if you do little exercise you should eat very little in terms of fat and such which comes largely from meat. It's not just carbohydrates that are filled often with calories and fat but meat as well.
So if any of you guys are struggling with weight loss and want quite fast weight loss (12.6 - 9 stone in 9-10 months for me).
1) Drink water and cut out practically all fizzy drinks/high caloric fruit juices/high caloric diluting juices.
2) I also removed sugar from my tea and coffee. Though thats less important.
3) Stop eating meat of all kinds.
(this last point. I'd be willing to recommend oily and healthy fish perhaps 2 portions per week. I don't do this myself but it's probably more optimal than total removal of fish due to omega 3 and other nutrients).
4) If you want to ramp it up exercise at the same time..maybe only 3 times a week would do on a diet like this. Not that its required.
So yeah I'm not a professional. I know that there are downsides to vegetarianism if done wrongly such as lack of protein if not provided elsewhere (nuts/supplements) but personally my experience has been one of great improvements in terms of my image and health with relative ease.
I know it would be harder for some people to go off drinks and meat cold turkey but I did and to be honest I haven't missed it since and I don't plan on going back and it's been quite easy for me.
Another advantage of only drinking water and such is that I practically never get any headaches and I practically never get ill. Perhaps 2 headaches per year and 1 small cold I've had this year that lasted about a day or 2. I am not as stupid to say this is all because of my diet, of course genetics and my immune system and environment play a part but I do believe that a good diet and drinking water plays a substantial role.
Hope this helps at least some people. Its not for everyone but one person who has the self-control to do this will reap the benefits. I also don't want this blog to turn into a debate over vegetarianism. I know the arguments, I've explained above there are downsides if done improperly. If your a weight lifter its probably not for you. If you just wanna be thin without much effort then this may be your thing.
No pics...sorry

i didn't realize we were still in the stone age

for those who are not from the uk, 1 stone = about 14 pounds so he went from from 175 to 125. Very roughly.
That's great dude. Can you give what your daily food intake was like? I find that it's almost impossible to cut out carbs cause I'm constantly craving them. Cutting out sugar is surprisingly easy after the second day or third day. After a few days you don't crave pop or sugary foods anymore.

thats funny. I lost around 60lbs doing the mayo clinic diet. Just meat and veggies, absolutely no carbs and other stuff (Asian cuisine rules!). I do play a lot of badminton ( like 4 times a week ) very competitively for my excersise. This is also interesting that you lost weight that way since i wasn't able to do that being a vegetarian

Stop eating meat?? < This is BAD. We are carnavores. Being a full veggie you lose out on so much good nutrition that your body really needs. You are losing weight; which is good. But make sure your losing Fat rather then muscle weight. You don't want to waste away and be some weedy looking guy. Eat at least grilled chicken for the protein and start doing the odd weights every few days so you keep what muscles you have and don't have jelly arms and legs.
I remember being given male models diets and training regime back in the day when I was offered a job doing that when I was 16 and I was like fuck that eating tonnes of chicken, protein shakes and weight training I just wanna play football with my m8's on my days off + i would never live it down being a model amoung my m8's.

My daily food intake...hmm
I tend to only eat 3 meals per day and practically never snack in between.
Breakfast ..
Mon/tues usually is a fry up cook by mum. Which is like...pure carbs. Potatoe scones, toast, potatoe waffles, egg.
Wed is uni day for me so I usually don't eat much. I usually get up and if I can be bothered one piece of toast with butter. Not a lot.
Thurs is usually toast again...toast and beans (heinz beans dunno if you have them. beans in tomato sauce heated up in pot)
Friday same as wed or Thurs
Saturday usually salad with pasta
Sunday french toast usually.
Lunch..
Soup with 2 bits of bread some days Toast and beans as mentioned above sometimes Vegetarian pakora (indian stuff) some days.
Dinner
Pasta/Sauce/Vegetables happens a few times during the week Vegetarian curry 3 bean chilli
Thats all relatively healthy stuff. To be honest I eat a lot of carbs.
On weekends it gets a bit less healthy. Maybe a pizza or curry from chinese take away.
Like I said though because I don't eat meat I still lose weight and haven't put any on over the last 10 months.
Obviously if I were to do this more than once or twice a week I'd put on weight most probably.
I don't eat huge amounts I've found my appetite has dropped quite a bit from cutting artificial sweeters, going vege and drinking lots of water.
Just stop eating when you feel full. It may sound simple but it works. Even if there's a lot more on the plate. Perhaps make smaller portions as you start to notice how much it takes for you to get full.
Hope this helps in some way.
Edit:
Flakes - Just eat a lot, do a lot of weights and make sure you get a lot of protein. I'm sure there's articles and stuff online that will explain in more detail how to bulk up but thats the general idea of it above.

125 at 5'8" is is seriously skinny though dude. i'd say you over did the weight loss thing just a tad bit. honestly i'm the same height and 165 lb with a reasonable BF% is pretty much standard imo.
good job on sticking to your guns though, you have shown some serious dedication but dont't lose any more weight as said, it's pretty borderline already if this is a healthy weight imo
|
well...its pretty easy to lose weight. just be big, and then move to the UK... with the food they got there, you wont want to eat anything...
its true that they got french restaurants...but still.

5'9 at 175 isn't unreasonable..BMI is all a load of shit anyways.

i'm 5'7" and 165 lbs, and i look fat as hell. Everyone says I have thick heavy bones and I have broad shoulders, but for some reason I don't hold meat on my frame very well. Can't wait to get down to 155, which was where I was at 6 months ago and I looked thinner, especially around the face.

5"7 165 is chill 5"9 175 is chill 5"7 125 is kinda skinny but nothing too dramatic.
5"2 110 is Chill (the TL admin)

wow i'm 5'8 140 and consider myself skinny. I went down to 130 for a while and i was skin and bones.

Ignorant post of the month. Go read something.

Grats man, if it works for you than keep it up. I would however recommend more exercise.
|
huh............yeah? he had a point dude..
no meat is severely reducing lots of imortant nutrients that your body needs.
veggies tend to be skinny as fuck
|
There are many, many ways of supplementing a vegetarian diet so you receive the same amount of nutrients typically found in meat.
I envy some of you, I have trouble gaining weight. I'm 5'10" and 115 lbs. The only thing I've ever done that works was chugging protein shakes which isn't something I view as ideal.
