Somewhat of a milestone. After about 350 games about 55 percent win rate I've reached 2000 rating on diamond on EU.
To give you a little bit of gamer history... I started playing BW about 2006/2007. I wasn't good at all, D+ at best on iccup. I watched vod's though and enjoyed playing and enjoyed of course TL.Net. I would play for a few months, give up, play for a few months.
So then of course SC2 hits the stores here in UK. I got it the day it came out, funnily enough it seems that I was the only one in the shopping mall interested. I don't think they had great sales of it here and there was no waiting lines.
I played the 50 practice games, winning many, then went on to play my placement matches. I won all 5 and went straight into platinum. Mainly because I used hotkeys, had apm above 100 and had a few build orders down. From there well I got into diamond very quickly after a few games and finally just now I reached 2000 rating. I played about 20 games yesterday, and 4 games so far today.
Really I think a huge part of my progress has been as always the Day 9 daily. I began watching them shortly after getting my copy of SC2. I learned and continue to learn much. So big shout out to you Sean Plott if you happen to stumble upon my blog.
Finally where do I go from here? I think I do have the ability to mass game if I wanted to and improve. I regularly defeat players with higher rating like 2200-2400 on diamond. I don't know if I want to though since I want to focus more on my studies. I didn't really strive to hit a rating, it just sort of happened as I got better with practice.
I still suck at this game on many levels but I suppose I'm quite happy I reached this rating today. Thanks for reading!

When you say you got it on release day, what time exactly did you go pick it up? Because most stores had midnight launches, so most preorders would have been picked up before you got there if you went in say the afternoon

Grats on 2k!
You should really keep your goals in mind here, or set them. DO you want to reach a certain point benchmark? After 2000, 3000 seems to be a great point.
On the other hand, you want to focus on studies, well the time you devote to academics will take away from practice, but some players still compete with strict timetables. Perhaps you can find practice partners who you can meet with regularly. If that's not even an option, practicing builds against the computer and working out timings has been said to be an effective training tool.
What goals do you have at this point?

Aike - I got it in the evening. Perhaps a few geeks pre-ordered but this store had like hundreds of copies out. I don't really think there was much demand. Keep in mind this is the UK.
Twox -Hm My goal perhaps should be 2500 at this point. Like I said 2000 wasn't really a goal. I just enjoyed playing and doing my best.

Stupid question, I know, but do you remember about how many games/wins it took you to get to diamond, cause I just started new acc so I'm plat and I'm wondering how fast I can get there. Also, congrats on 2k dia

Harrad - I'm not entirely sure perhaps 15-30 games. Somewhere in that range. Not a lot.

I feel exactly the same, I know I can learn and improve, and there's clearly so much to improve on, if i invested the time into the game but I have my studies to worry about. I mainly play 3v3 because the game finishes much faster on average and I was surprised to find out I can reach the 2k mark. That gave me the confident to fantasize about pushing studying aside completely to practice sc2 all day in hopes of one day being world famous. But then I realize I can't be a pro gamer and I need to focus on my future as well. So I don't know if you're torn like I am, but your post made me think of it.
|
Hm I'm not so much torn. I know where my future is headed to a certain extent and it's not SC2 glory even if I did have the opportunity I can say with a degree of certainty that I would reject it.
Still...fun to improve and feel like your getting good at the game.
