Ive had the Siberia V2's for around 2 months now, and overall i get quite a mixed set of reviews. For me personally they do not fit my head as snug as they should, especially at the start when they were not worn in, they distribute all the weight and pressure of above my ears and now below so it would hurt after even 2 hours of usage. Also, if you have longish hair ive noticed that it actually blocks the earmuffs from going all around your ear so im constantly having to push my hair up and ears in.
On the plus side however, i think the quality of sound and construction is excellent, easily the best headset ive owned in that respect and the band style adjustment is good for easy on and off.
Having said that when i dont need to use my mic, i often find myself switching to my in ear headphones for comfort around my ears and head.

Because I don't understand why people look to gaming companies to buy audio equipment. If you don't care too much about sound and want something inexpensive, you can probably get that from either of these two companies. For a lot of people this is fine. It works well. Just buy whatever fits on your head the best and go with it. If you are looking for sound quality, making a blind purchase for headphones from a gaming company just doesn't seem like the greatest idea. Maybe my comment was inappropriate for what the OP was looking for though, and if so... ignore me.

Siberias are super comfortable, and my head is so big I have to try and resell an XL skiing helmet that I bought online because its too small. I've worn them 10+ hours at a time with no issues.
|
I obviously do care about sound quality but not as much as comfort. I have quite a large head and ears but short hair so I don't know which one will be best for me as the returns policies on Amazon, eBuyer etc. with headsets isn't that good because they won't let you return a headset if you've opened it/used it, even for 1 minute. I have a Turtle Beach X11 and it kills my ears like mad.
EDIT: I don't mean to sound like a horrible person, but I'm more interested in those who've tried/owned these headsets that have a large head and/or ears so that I can get some sort of rough idea on how comfortable it's going to be.

I personally love my siberia V2s. Havent used the other headset you listed but ive had a few headsets in my time and most of them have hurt after only a few hours because i wear glasses. I havent had this problem at all as of yet with the V2s, so i definatly recommend them. Sound quality is good for the price, and ive never had any complaints about my mic volume/quality from friends on any VoIP. If the V2s are cheaper id 100% go with them.

I can get the Siberia V2 for £54.50 and the Carcharias for £60.20. I wear glasses as well. Either way, whichever headset I get will have better SQ than my Turtle Beach X11's so it's a case of finding out whether they will crush my big noggin and ears or not

I recently bought a pair of the Siberias. Out of all the headsets I have owned, these have by far been the best without a doubt. There's a lot of nice little features and you can tell a lot of thought has gone into designing these.
|
I'd much rather get some Sennheiser HD555/595's. Much better audio quality. 555's cost like 80 bucks on amazon, and I believe you can do a real easy mod to make them sound pretty much the same as the 595's. Amazon also has like clip on microphones for like 20 bucks.
|
I've used clip-on mic's before and I don't particularly like them.
|
I hate being so indecisive..Amazon's returns policy doesn't help either.

Any gaming headset will be inferior to a set of real headphones at the same price range. If you aren't really worried about sound quality then they are fine but it's better to get a nice pair of headphones and an external mic if you are concerned about sound quality.
Either the sennheiser hd555's, ad700's or jvc ha-rx900's will give you MUCH better sound quality than these two. The reason you see everyone wearing these at tourneys is because pros are sponsored by some of these companies so nerds will overpay for these products. Just be weary of anything advertised as a "gaming" product. Just think about it, the reason people use siberias or carcharias isn't because word of mouth got around that they're awesome products, it's because people see everyone at lan's wearing them and assume they're the best.
People can do what they want with their cash but I don't like seeing people throwing money away. If you've never used a decent set of headphones before, these will sound great to you but do your research of try some others out and don't blindly buy into the hype .
EDIT: Sorry if I'm being unhelpful. Out of these two I would pick the razer carcharias, they have really good reviews and can be had for 34.99 at tigerdirect (enter coupon DJP30877). Coupon saves you 35 which reduces price from 69.99. For $35 you definitely won't find anything comparable with an included mic. I've used the siberia's and they're really nothing special as far as sound quality. IF mic is not important then JVC ha-rx700 will have better sound quality for the same price, though it's not really suitable to wear in public .

feeling disapointed right now,
i just bought steelseries siberia v2 and the sound quality is worse than a pair of skullcandy earbuds, will these eventually wear in because right now it sounds awfull.
however, they are very very comfy. I got large ears and a medium/large head they fit snuggly inside the headset. They arent heavy and you dont really feel like you are wearing a headset, usually i find that they slip off my head easily(skullcandy etc), or weigh heavy on my ears (philips etc) though i dont have this problem with the sibera V2,
i cant compare sound quality to sennheiser or razor as i havent owned a pair of those. ill edit this post in the future and give a verdict on them after a month or so.
EDIT: seems i didnt need to wait a month, the sound worn in already and sounds really really nice, was playing THIEF: Deadly shadows earlier and there is some surround sound to it, obviously not 7.1 quality but i could tell where people/footsteps were comming from.

I just bought siberia v2 and i gotta say that these are the best earphones i have ever used. Sound quality is awesome, and these have some very unique mechanic to make it very comfortable on your ear, i have never seen anything like this before. Also the built in microphone is very handy. These are pretty expensive but you should definetly invest some more money for better quality.

Hey im looking for a set of headphones that have good sound quality for music(I listin to almost all music), and a mic. What are some suggestions?
|
I have an original Siberia from way back before Steelseries bought the company that made the headset. It's like, 7 years or something old and still fucntioning perfectly. The only thing not working properly is the extended jack, due to it having the seperate volume control where the wire apparently is now loosened.

RAZER!!! Dude, it should be simple. They support TL, therefore you should select RAZER because part of it will go to TL
|
As much as I'd like to support TL, I'm not going to buy a (potentially) inferior headset.

Hey Mackem, I am in the same situation as you! I went ahead and bought both so here's what I have to say:
Note: I play Counter-Strike: Source and Starcraft 2 on a daily basis, and tested both of these for more than 2 weeks.
Looks: Your Choice - just the headband suspension and all white is wicked. Though the Carcharias has the "professional" low profile look to it.
Headset Quality - Pretty Even - Siberia V2 is lighter, but has a much lighter, hollow, and plastic feel to it. The Carcharias has a nice finish to the plastic that gives it a texture, and is more solid, but is a bit heavier. Both have a black metal mesh pattern on the back of the headset cups. The Carcharias has a sturdier inline volume/mic controller with a clip + braided cable.
Sound Quality: Your Choice - Much better bass on the Carcharias than the Siberia V2, treble is about the same. Both are 2.1 headsets but SteelSeries sells a 7.1 virtual surround sound in-line usb soundcard if you want to shell out some extra money.
Mic + Quality: Siberia V2 - The mic quality is better on the Siberia V2, but not by far. It wins by design though. The retractable mic is much sturdier than the Carcharias's mic. Noise canceling is even on both mics.
Earcups: Your Choice - The Siberia V2 has leather cups. This blocks out more outside noise than the cloth cups, but can get uncomfortable on long uses due to the lack of air around your ear and skin. The Carcharias has cloth cups, which are more comfy against your skin than leather and you have more "breathability", but allow more noise in from the outside. they're much better for long term use. Also note that the Carcharias's cups attract dirt, dust, etc.
Fit: Siberia V2* - The suspension headband is neat, and decreases the weight of the headset. It will rest the headset on your ears automatically & perfectly. The Carcharias is easy to set as far as height. I slides up and down metal rods that have enough friction to slide and stay put at the same time.
*IMPORTANT: The Siberia V2 is slimmer than the Carcharias, and has smaller earcups than the Carcharias. So if you, as you stated, have a bigger than average head and bigger than average ears (much like myself) then don't get the Siberia V2, it simply won't work out for you.
As I'm posting this, I'm wearing my Carcharias. My verdict is that they are both dead even. I listen to music a lot, watch movies, and play games competitively. I think the Siberia V2 is much cooler than the Carcharias, but it doesn't fit me, and I wasn't very happy with the bass but wouldn't mind that much. The Carcharias was a perfect fit for me, and is great for music and movies. You get what you pay for, and the Carcharias is a smidge more expensive than the Siberia V2
So if you:
Have larger than average head/ears, listen to music/watch movies on your computer and require deep(er) bass, like the color black, prefer cloth earcups - Get the Razer Carcharias
Have a average size head/ears, like other colors (white, blue, red, + black), are looking for a headset with a "cool" factor, prefer leather earcups - Get the Siberia V2
Mackem, I say in your case, get the Carcharias because what may end up happening is that you get the Siberia V2, suffer from a lot of headaches because of the tight fit around your head, and then buy the Carcharias.
I wish there was a Siberia V2 Wide edition with larger earcups. I'd rock that along with the 7.1 virtual surround sound card and trash my Carcharias! But there isn't so I voted Carcharias on the poll.
|
50mm drivers on the Siberia are going to make lots of bass and weak highs and mids. The Carcharias has 40mm drivers to give excellent mids and good bass and highs as well. If you are not an audiophile and listen to a lot of rap or dubstep, consider the Siberia but for games or if you are not of the opinion that more bass= better sound quality then the Carcharias is the way to go.

Wow, thanks for the reply. I have Turtle Beach X11s and my ear lobe slightly hangs out of the bottom of the earcups when I extend them to the fullest, so I'd imagine the Carcharias won't do this?
