Warned for this:
+ Show Spoiler +Only four years late. David Kim is clueless.
Ya know what game is working well, both for people to play and as an E-Sport? League of Legends. And it isn't insanely difficult to master, yet only a small percentage of people can play at the top level.
He is doing what he always does, destroying the player base by ignoring the basic tenets of game design. He is the reason we had to suffer through hours long Swarm Host matches, such a poorly designed unit that violated so much of what we know about game design.
Thinking he can solve the problems he created is ignorant at this point, look at the track record. Let's all remember how the Tempest was going to be a solution to Mutalisks, then realize how it has become a boring A-move monster of the late game.
Please provide constructive criticism only. No balance whine.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation, Seeker

What is the definition of balance whine on TL, and what did I say to violate it?
Sure maybe I deserve the warning for being a tool and not providing constructive criticism, but balance whine? I don't balance whine, at least with my definition.
I don't play SC2 much because the game is designed poorly, not because it is balanced poorly. If Blizzard only allowed players to build hatcheries, drones and zerglings, the game would be balanced. But it would be a terribly designed game and I'd say so.

Does the wording of a private message really make that big of a difference to you? You know fully well what you got the warning for. Are you know complaining about the stock PM?
|
No the wording doesn't...
Of course the wording makes a big difference to me or I wouldn't have bothered to create this thread.
Just sloppy moderating if they warn you for balancing whining when you aren't. I think everyone deserves to know why they are warned so they don't do it again, and if in fact what I said did constitute balance whine, educate me.
That is the right thing to do, and it is how justice systems work. And any difference between this and other justices is only in degree of crime and punishment, not principle.
Let's be principled, not sloppy.

Stating "David Kim is clueless" is sloppy. if you are getting this nit-picky then i require a more precise thesis statement. Furthermore, making apples-to-apples comparisons between an RTS game to a game where you control 1 hero unit is sloppy. Blizzard's direct competitor to LoL is Heroes of the Storm.
Sloppiness begets sloppiness.

(not to mention one many people agree with) for me balance whine is about "whining" that your race or a unit of it is too weak or that opponent race or unit is too strong and you want it to be stronger / weaker so you make complaints maybe repeatedly about it (well if it truly was too weak or strong that's not necessarily bad of course? what would be the diff between balance "whine" and criticism? must write politely?????????)

Bit rich to call it balance whine when Blizzard is completely rebalancing and redesigning the unit thanks to how awful it is.

We have not generally condoned whining about the state of the game, even when there might be a grain of reason to the complaints. Note that we emphasize whining and not criticizing - one is constructive, one consciously fails to be. The fact that Blizzard is reconsidering this unit or rebalancing that facet of play does not particularly matter in the context, because we object against low-effort and/or destructive posting, and whining about the game without attaching something constructive has very rarely produced positive results.
Besides, whining about game balance would be balance whine by definition, even if Blizzard has acknowledged it as an issue. The rules against balance whining are clear enough that it should never be an accidental problem for someone participating on TL's forums.
And BronzeKnee, I will agree that the warning message was a little imprecise. Our stock warning messages sometimes don't reflect nuances well. Whining about game design (and bashing Blizzard/their developers, but that's a different story) is sometimes treated the same as whining about balance, even though the two are clearly distinct. The point is the lack of constructive elements to offset the whining. Given how intertwined design and balance tend to be, it's easy to see how they overlap.
