A few days ago he asked me to join iCCup so he could play online against other people.. I was surprised he knew how it all worked but anyway I set him up and he went about playing games. We both play terran so it was good to see him get some experience. However it is really sad since he always looses really easily (he is 10). So in order to help him out and give him confidence, I told him to switch to Protoss and DT rush. So far he's been doing well but now all he does is play Protoss and DT rush everytime.. was this a bad idea?
Am I a bad brother?

Well if it isn't broke, don't fix it ofc you're gonna have to tell him to learn something else later on down the road haha

LOL, and he wins? that's awesome (i shouldn't lol too hard, id probably lose to him -_-) but yeah, eventually if he likes sc enough he'll want to get past D so he'll be forced to learn everything else.

I hope that if he actually does have a passion for the game, he'll try hard to improve other aspects of his game when he realizes his 6 probe dt rush isn't working any more. But I definitely don't think this is a bad thing At the very least, he's seen you play, so he knows he ,can go to you to ask questions, so for example, if he asks you why his dt rush is no longer working, you can either get him to dt rush better or get a new strategy, either way he will work on his mechanics/builds

haha Well thanks for the kind words guys, I'll teach him some of the protoss basics to see if he likes it/help improve the mechanics. He did ask me the other day to help him get better. I'll probably pick up playing on iCCup again so I can get better myself (if it wasn't for hotkeys/keeping money low, I may not be much better than he is) On August 31 2009 13:08 Kurosaki wrote: What's his iccup ID and what time does he get play? + Show Spoiler + hah I'm sure you would understand me not giving out a 10 year olds iCCup ID (his mind is still pure and I wouldn't want to give away any free wins)

You might as well start teaching him real builds and the thought behind them. And work on his mechanics too lol

Anywayyyyyyyyy, just try to get him to learn more builds I guess. He's only 10 though so I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't have much luck.

My brother got me into Starcraft and I tried to imitate him as Terran. Soon I became a bit more independent and tried Protoss and Zerg, and found my favorite was Zerg. If he keeps with Starcraft he'll find his own place and will learn strategy himself, teaching him to rush DTs will just keep him interested in the game since he'll know it's actually winnable. Soon he will realize the game is very deep and hopefully still love it :D

it's good that he's actually learning builds. Make sure he knows WHY he made that pylon at the certain supply, why he made the citadel this early or why he needs to pump probes. Understanding what he's doing will put him at the mid D- levels if he can have less than 5000 minerals and 3000 gas at the end of a 10 minute game. (I meant, if he can actually have macro.) Anyways, at his age, he probably doesn't care about whats good or what. He cares about that wonderful feeling you get from the first 20 or so games you win on iccup. As long as he can win once or twice a day, he'll get better and probably won't quit.

Nah, you're awesome. You don't even roflstomp all over him with your experience (unless you didn't say so ) and you are teaching him. Definitely not a bad brother. + Show Spoiler + though i seriously hate DTs <3

Do you think just vs. comps would be better? (although no one builds a goddamn m&m army TvP like the comps do)
