i just finished watching oldboy and I liked it in a weird way. I mean some movies make you feel good, others make you sad, some make you think... oldboy struck me like a 18-wheeler and left me bleeding on the road- a powerful movie indeed, so I'd say a good one. Watch it! (it has gruesome violence and is evil beyond imagination, if that doesn't turn you off, go for it!)
I just feel so disturbed now that I had to write this down and I have no idea how I will ever fall asleep again.
U should check in the directors other 2 movies, Sympathy for Mr Vengeance and Lady Vengeance.
Oldboy is actually the 2nd movie to his "Revenge Trilogy". Sympathy for Mr Vengeance was a bit slow at first but in ways i felt it was more crazier then oldboy, still an awesome watch. Lady Vengeance i personally thought was the worst out of the 3, but still good. It took a while to get to the so called "Revenge scenes" id like to call it. The last 30 minutes of that movie were fuckin awesome. Fuckin golden indeed.
Overall Oldboy was the best out of the 3 but you really should look into the other 2 as well, awesome films. I personally seen Oldboy bout 10 times and still enjoy it .

If you turn up the sound when they are in PC Cafe u can hear hydras dieing in the background by tanks :D
I dont know, man... oldboy is not the kind of movie you'd like to see again. not that i'm too much of a woos, but the plot is just so twisted that once you know it, the movie would have lost so much of its essence.

Thats asian cinema for you. I was gonna lay down some fun Japanese films but if u thought Oldboy was twisted.. then i guess ill keep my mouth shut -_-
edit: Not saying all Asian cinema is twisted like, just mentioning that Asian cinema usually has alot of films that western film directors and the public would ph33r to touch, which in my opinion is fuckin aweeesssommmeee. IE: Visitor Q
Like someone else mentioned, you should watch the other two, "Sympathy for Lady/Mr Vengeance." Also, his most recent film, "'I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK," was amazing as well.
Plus, his up and coming film, "Thirst," should be available soon.
It was alright, but I've seen much better (imho) korean movies. I think it's gotten so much easier to watch them now that they're more widely subtitled by online groups and also many companies here (especially CJ media.) subtitle their DVDs. I'm mainly a big fan of Ryeo Deokhwan so his back catalogue is the core of my collection

Do you perhaps remember the title of the one with giant mutated catfish killing people? I think it was Korean, really fun to watch.

It was called 'The Host.' I enjoyed that one quite a lot too, but I think Epik High's skit music video of it was hilarious.
Sorry, by twisted plot I meant that it was full of mysteries and unexpected turns and that is not something you can get by watching it for a second time.
Manit0u, I know what you're talking about... but damn.. that title just slipped out of my mind. I'll ask my sister and if I find it I'll pm it to you.

Torrenting now Man I'm so excited, I LOVE movies like this.
My list of movies that everyone should see before they die (off the top of my head)
- Pulp Fiction - The Usual Suspects - Fight Club - Heath Ledgers scenes in The Dark Night (all other scenes are cat piss) - several more that I don't recall right now
fucking amazing! wow I guess I'm so used to Hollywood bullshit that this really shook me up, I was about to make a blog for Korean films (and asian in general, since I just heard of Ichi the Killer and am torrenting it now) but then I used my trusty search key so that's great.
I just realized how much more I trust TLers opinions about this kinda stuff than "normal" people.

PF was pretty bad.
Some more crazy/cool movies:
- Memento - Identity - Taking Lives - Infernal Affairs series (so much better than The Departed) - The Machinist - American Psycho
Edit: I've almost forgotten about the most fucked up movie ever created:

And GTR yeah I plan on watching Battle Royale, I got into the manga but didn't finish.
Now begins...my quest for an online VOD!
That sucks man, i have good feeling u would've loved it too. I have yet to meet some1 who didnt enjoy Ichi the Killer :D. If u find that you enjoyed it, u can try some other Takashi Miike movies like... Gozu, Visitor Q, and Yokai War just to name a few -_-
